I had my first run with Ogallala Bay Rum soap this morning. After reading a discouragingly large number of negative reviews, I decided to use the method mentioned by a few members, which involved soaking the soap and brush in hot water during my shower:
Afterwards, I poured out the water, flicked my brush off a couple times (not too much, I wanted to retain a fair amount of water) and started whipping up the soap in the mug (in total I would say about 50 rotations before I moved to my face), and started seeing lather building up almost immediately. It was really effortless to create (what I consider) a thick, comfortable lather:
I read a lot of reviews where users said the lather dried out on them after seeming to be usable at first, but I experienced none of that. I actually found that the lather became more slick with each pass, as I was keeping lots of water on my face before reapplying.
After a cold water rinse, I splashed on some of their bay rum aftershave (they included 1oz samples of all 4 of their aftershave scents with my order!). It had just the right amount of burn, not too much and not too little. I could not be happier with my experience. It just goes to show, YMMV. Cheers!
