Ever-Ready Razor Company

Anybody know anything about them? I bought a vintage razor made by them. Very elegant and looks turn of the century, but no date on the razor. Nice metal case. Only other notation is "Made in England".

Looks like a very nice 1912 model with the heavy 'ornate' handle.

Ever-Ready was the British counterpart to the US-made GEM - they are virtually the same on certain models - though different on others. The 1912's were very similar.

Excellent shaver.

Cool! Thanks!

Is that made for a SE or DE blade? I don't have any SEs or experience with them personally.

There were Ever Ready models made in the US as well.

They are very good shavers, giving a close, smooth, comfortable shave.

You can GEM Single Edge Blades at most drugstores. The going price here in NJ is about $4-$5 for a pack of ten. Just make sure they say stainless steel, and preferably PTFE coated.

congratulations, you just stumbled on one of the best shaving tools ever manufactured. do a little reading on this razor and proper technique. you'll be blown away at how close and smooth your shaves are; much superior to de's for many folks.

Fantastic score there! Those are some of the best shavers around. You'll want to get some good blades. The ones from Walgreens will do fine, but you'll eventually want to buy in bulk from Ted Pella.

Be sure to look at the articles for technique that are scattered around. It's easy, but a bit different.

Enjoy that nice razor!

Thanks guys! I didn't know much about it, but it looked like it was definitely worth the $12 bid... :biggrin1:

And after looking a little closer, I did find the "Pat'd 1912" etched in the handle where it meets the shaver!

Will have to find me some SE blades now. DEs are hard enough to find around here- so far I have found one store brand of DEs at one grocery store. Wally World and Target don't carry anything.

A word to the wise, though; do *NOT* use 'paint scraper' blades from the hardware store. You won't like them. Really.

If you purchase locally, make sure that the blades are 'GEM', 'Treet', or 'PAL Blue Stars'. Preferably in that order.

Treets are in Rite Aids if they have those near you.

I'd heard Family Dollar carried some decent SE blades as well - I don't remember if they were PALs or GEMS.

Walgreens is another place where members here have had success. GEM Stainless seems to be what shows up there most times I read about it here.

It's becoming more difficult to find good-shaving SEs. It seems that many stores are now replacing the Name brand SE blades with 'store branded' blades.

There's always the bay and online.
