What's new

Evan Williams Single Barrel

Anybody have much experience with this whiskey? I drink it on occasion and prefer it to Gentleman Jack... It's a very smooth whiskey and mixes well. Thoughts or Opinions?

Meh....try George Dickel No. 12 if you're looking for smooth. This is a 10 year old Tennessee whiskey that is one of the best out there. Highly underrated and not as hyped as the other whiskey it won't treat you wrong.

I have a bottel of the 2000 bottling open and I think it is exceptional. Certainly among my top 5 bourbons.

I like it. I drink it, including mixed (in Manhattans).

I like it better than any versions of Jack Daniels, as I recall the latter.

To me, bourbon is in general a bargain for any given level of quality compared to any other spirit, especially barrel-aged spirits, at the particular quality level.

I'm a big fan, too. EW Single Barrel has been my go to for the money, though I'm pretty fired up about trying the W.L. Weller's 12yo head to head with Pappy's Lot B this weekend. Another <$30 bourbon to try is the Old Weller Antique 107proof; it's about the same price as the EW Single Barrel and is mighty good.

Picked up a bottle last evening for a dinner with another couple. Our hosts had picked up some Woodford Reserve earlier in the day, knowing that was my favorite, but I thought I'd like to try something new. I liked it a lot. More character than Woodford, which I find to be super smooth and mellow. Enjoyed it very much. I'll rank it ahead of Elijah Craig, Knob Creek 9, Bulleit, and BT. Nice bottle that won't break the bank. Once again I looked past Blanton's and Four Roses small batch and some other pricier offerings. Now I wonder how the $50/bottle bourbons compare...

I did a head to head this weekend with Weller 12yo and Pappy's Lot B. There's no question that Pappy's is the superior bourbon of the two. Rounder profile, much better nose (which likely contributed to the more nuanced taste). The Weller 12yo was just OK in comparison, and certainly very good for its price point and availability. I still prefer the EW Single Barrel to the Weller's, but they're both good bourbons.

EW Single Barrel is quite good, and for the price cant really be beat. I prefer other single barrels but again for the price you cant beat EW.
