ERN straight razors? I need info, please!

I just recently bought an ERN straight off of ebay. Can anyone tell me something about these? I have heard them mentioned around here but rarely see them for sale on BST. Is this because they are rare or because they are cheap like , say, a Gold Dollar? Any info would be great.

not at all mate - theyre very good. my ERN Ator is one of my favouirtes.

Very good razors and are easy to hone, they take an awesome edge. My daily razor is just like the one pictures but with a squared point, I love it.

Very good razor!

I current have a 1914 made in Germany ERN, it's one of my best shavers!

I have a ERN and consider them excellent straight razors. My model is the 673, a round pointed razor, which has served me well for years.

My first really good straight shave was with an Ern Crown & Sword that I bought from our own poonjaji.

Thanks again for the razors, Michael

Walker, I think you will like your new Ern razor. If you are new to straight shaving, I would suggest you send it out to one of the honemeisters for sharpening. That way you know what a properly sharpened razor feels like. Enjoy the shaves, they are addictive :thumbup1:

Echoing what was said above, ERNs are good razors. I buy and sell a lot of razors, and there is a commonness to most of them in my memory and estimation. They come and go with little notice. Somehow, in my opinion, ERNs have managed to climb out from the horde of other razors as somewhat better than average. As I think back to these razors, I could be wrong, but my recollection is that the pinning and scales is above average also.

I have one "1166" a 7/8 full hollow and one 4/8 full hollow.

The 1166 is marked with the "Crown&Sword" trademark, which seems to have been their top-of-the-line brand.
And it is certainly a really good razor.
It's in fact one of those that I find myself reaching for more often then many others in the rotation.

The "regular" ERN is a good shaver, nothing fancy, but certainly delivers a good edge with no fuss.

I own an ERN that was rescaled by Max...love this thing and one of my best shavers!

(can't claim the pic tho..thats off Max's website!)

Here she is guys. I was kind of worried because the seller said she had "Contact Rust" on the other side of the blade and the auction was down to minutes when i found it and didn't have enough time to ask for pictures of the rust. I paid 45.00 for this razor. Honestly, how did I do? I think i may have paid a little more than needed to but I think she will be a nice shaver. I got some fine grit sandpaper and sanded the rust off of the blade which didn't seem to be deep at all. I tried to capture the problem area on my camera but couldn't seem to get it just right. The pic with the "smudge" marks is the one. Opposite of the Solingen side of the blade.

looks good

and the plus is that the rust is on the non-etch side, so you can sand it away no problem

Thanks. It is very close to being NOS i started honing it and didn't check to see if there was any hone wear before i started so i can't swear it was new. Can't wait to shave with it!
