English Bulldogs?

Are there any fellow English Bulldog owners on on the on B&B? If so, please post some pics. Here is my wife and I with Sherman and Emily.

Nice looking dogs. Being that they are really expensive and don't do all that well in the heat, I've never gotten one. However, I would like to have one some day.

Hotlanta. This can be a problem for them. Not really outside dogs in summer as you can imagine.

I have an American Bulldog. Looks like an English Bulldog but he weighs 140 lbs.

One of my favorite dogs was an American Bulldog named Zeus. My parents bought it for me when I was in college. They said it was the best money they ever spent, and I have to agree. He's died of cancer, but he was awesome! 140 lbs as well.:w00t:

My white bulldog in the picture (Sherman) died last year of cancer. But your right bulldogs are such great dogs. We got a new english bulldog in November named him Murphey (Pics to follow).

Introducing Murphey. Those familar with Wrigley Field know where he got his name.

Beautiful animals.

We have a "Royal" Standard Poodle named Lola. There is really no such thing as "Royal" -- it's just a marketing term for dogs that are bred to be larger than average. Lola, for example, is pushing 70 lbs. An average female Standard Poodle is usually about 45 lbs. We love her. She has a great temperament and is probably the smartest dog we've had. She received her "Canine God Citizen" award from the AKC at about 1 year old (she's just shy of 2 right now). Sorry, I know you were looking for English Bulldogs, but a dog lover is a dog lover, no matter the breed. Enjoy!

Okay, someone enlighten me. What is the difference between an English Bulldog and the American variety? Please, no pelting with rotten fruit. I just honestly didn't know there was a difference. I knew about French bulldogs which are quite a bit smaller than their brethren. I love bulldogs but could never handle the slobbering. I know of which I speak since we used to own a Basset hound. Lovable dog, complete mess to deal with.

Regards Todd

There is a huge difference in American and English Bulldogs. Temperament wise, they are both great with families. However, the American Bulldog is much better at protection. English Bulldogs will love an intruder to death and make him feel bad for being in your house without your permission. American Bulldogs will put the hurt on an intruder. They are much bigger, and their snouts aren't nearly as short which means that they are better suited for hotter climates.

American Bulldog people will tell you that they are more like the Bulldogs that got the reputation for being so tough and for baiting bulls. I don't know if that is true or not. Note: These are not pit bulls, nor are they anything like them in temperament. Here are a couple pics of American Bulldogs

English Bulldogs are my favorite breed. I've never parted with enough scratch to buy one, but I tell the Mrs. all the time that when we return the states I am getting one.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the info. The dog in your second pic sure looks like an American Pit Bull Terrier though I understand that many times the Staffordshire Terrier is mistaken for them as well. I do wish people would not clip their ears. It gives them a mean look that does not do them justice. The same sort of mistake is made with the English Pit Bull Terrier. People lump them in with the fighting Pits from the States. I really love the looks of the English Bulldogs and English Pit Bull Terriers. I love "Petey" from the Little Rascals. I don't think the English version has as fearsome a reputation as the American version. At least not that I am aware of.

Regards, Todd
