End of a razor

So how do you know when you've outgrown a razor, is it when you find yourself changing pressure to try and give what you're after or it doesn't excite you and becomes mundane or something else perhaps?

Im asking because im having serious thoughts about giving away my three week old de89l as a pif with some other bits for a newb seeing as this board has given me so much, please no trying to swing my decision tempting i know but i have to think this through for myself :tongue_sm

It's still a great razor but i've just used my futur and with the same iridium blade i got closer with less irritation, fewer passes and no weepers.

Probably the "excite" thing.

You *may* want to hold onto it. Variety is the spice of life and many of us have discovered previously unknown goodness in razors when we revisited them a few months later.

I think it's like listening to a new CD that you like. After a while, you stop listening to it, but later - sometimes much later - you play it and it is still enjoyable.

I liken razors to tools. I don't collect tools, but I do collect good user tools, that is tools that I can and do use. I will never acquire and then dequire a tool that I have used. It'll make for a great estate sale!

Keep it if you don't need the cash.

I don't think dequire is the anti acquire, but it sounds good to me.

Ok, your post might actually stop me from buying the DE89L.

That said, I would say keep it.

You will want to shave with it some future time when you want a change from the Futur. It will be a nice change of pace, and then you can always "Go Back To The Futur"

I use it at 6.5. You?

Currently around 3.5-4 for the first pass, i can have it higher i was just being cautious as it's been a while since i used it, got a great shave from it.

Oh don't get me wrong the 89 is a fantastic little razor and capable of some great shaves but the switch to the futur today had me wondering if i've outgrown it.

I guess it's a YMMV thing, my beard has gone very coarse since making the move to de shaving almost wire like, i bought the 89 as i wanted to have some fun and play with my technique a bit, now i've done that i find it doesn't excite me and feels a bit mundane probably as there's no challenge.

I'll keep it for now seeing as others have suggested i may fall in love with it at a later date, but if i try it later on and still not love it i'll pif it to someone more deserving, it's the least i could do. :001_smile
