What's new

EJ Georgian DE

I am considering buying an EJ Georgian razor, because i only have vintage razors
and fancy a modern one to add to my rotation
I like to use my Gillette New,and Rocket HDs mainly, so how would the EJ compare against these two Gillettes?
By the look of it the handle would take a bit of getting used too but it does look cool!

I don't own either of the razors you have, so can't answer your question, but I have a Fat boy that I use the 3 and 4 settings, and also a SS. The EJ razor I have is a Chatsworth with the new Muhle head. The EJ is the best shave I have. It is very heavy with a beautifully chromed brass handle. The razor balances perfectly at the narrowest part of the handle. (waist). I grip the razor at the waist and it is balanced and controllable. I got the razor with the barley patterned texture which provides gription. The fit and finish are superb also. It's a keeper.

I can't compare my EJ Georgian to the razors you mentioned, but I can tell you that it almost does all the work for you. Because of the handle being heavy (like a small TV remote, or an old fashioned, small cellphone) and chubby it lies very comfortably in the hand, the main weight being in the handle. At the same time, it is not in any means unbalanced, the razor head laying comfortably against your skin. You don't have to press the head against your skin, just hold the razor and move it and it will do the rest, or so it feels to me. It might be my first DE razor but I just don't feel the need to get another one with this since it just works for me.

I did try to shave with my old fusion the other day, since I was in a hurry, and it was like trying to shave with a saw in comparison to shaving with a piece of butter. Smooth results from both, but I just can't even feel my Georgian unless I try to extend the life of a Derby blade beyond the 2nd shave.

Well i have taken the plunge and ordered one in light horn,so looking forward to comparing against the vintage Gillettes

Well my Georgian turned up today, i have to say it is a beautiful looking razor, but my joy was short lived when i opened the next letter, that's gonna cost more than the razor!!:cursing::cursing:

So you got a razor and a brush with the law on the same day.

Alas "red light" cameras are becoming a standard way for cities in the US to pick up an extra couple of hundred thousand a month in revenue as well. They also make the operators very rich along the way.

Enjoy your new razor anyway.

That, sir, is a lovely razor, and I'm considering getting one myself; also with the light horn handle.

i would say get one now dont hesitate!!!
i used it this morning and can now see why some people say that EJ razors cured their rad, i had a real close shave with 2 passes no irritation or nicks in fact its right up there with my Rockets and New i was that impressed i grabbed a Chatsworth off the bay to go into my rotation as well!

For what it's worth, the traffic camera law was challenged in court, and declared unconstitutional on the grounds the driver could not be clearly identified in the photographs. Minnesota law says the driver must be charged with the infraction, not just the vehicle. If you know a lawyer that would take the case without breaking your bank, it could be worth a shot.

Unfortunately, here in Canada the owner of the vehicle is deemed to be responsible for red light infractions and, therefore, obligated to pay the incurred fines. The only "upside" is that no demerit points are applied and it doesn't impact insurance premiums. Nonetheless, it goes to show that revenue generation trumps personal freedoms and rights up here in the "Great White North." But I'm not bitter.

You can see from my sig which razors I use, all w/ the same blade. My EJ Light Horn Chatsworth gives me the best/closest/longest lasting shaves. My Gillette adjustable(set on 5) is a fairly close second. The mildest, but still top quality shaver is the Krona; sure feels different than the others. I have been shaving with the Gold Tech that I got from my dad-in-law(it was also his fathers daily shaver) - just got it replated before using. It's about as mild a DE as I have ever used, feels just "right" in my hand, and delivers a very capable shave. I always love to come back to the "Chatty" for the closeness!

How big is that razor compared to a Merkur 34c?

Like you, I have the Georgian in light horn (a real beaut!) as well as a 48 Superspeed and a Tech....and a bunch of Merkurs

The Georgian gives a smooth and effortless shave...it is more aggressive than either of the two vintage Gillettes, especially the Tech, but it is not quite as aggressive as the Merkur 38c, 23c or 34c.

I think of it as a more refined, considerate and better mannered Merkur. A Merkur that has gone to a Swiss finishing school in the Alps.

The Superspeed ..or Rocket...is a one of a kind in my book. Hard to put my finger on it. Though slightly less aggressive than the Georgian, it handles beautifully ...and loaded with a sharp blade it just mows down the whiskers without trying. Just a different feel than any other razor.....like a gent who does difficult things with aplomb......

Hope that helps!
