Edwin Jagger Travel in Pure

So I recently moved from Ohio to Tennessee to Liverpool, England. I was in TN for about a month visiting family. Most of my shaving stuff was boxed up, so I decided to just use 1 cream (Body Shop Macca Root), 1 soap (La Toja stick... thanks Domino), a Tech with Personna blades, and an Edwin Jagger travel brush with Pure hair. I only face lather. I just load the brush (cream) or my face (soap stick) and go to town with the brush.

I have to say that exclusively using the EJ travel in pure for over a month has opened my eyes to the fact that a great shaving experience can be had with a scratchy, relatively cheap, floppy brush. I typically use dense, stiff, short-loft brushes, ala the ones reviewed in my signature.

Using a floppy brush took some getting used to, and I often hold the brush by the base of the hair, per Mantic's videos, to stiffen it up if I feel the need. I can create amazing lather, always have plenty for 3 passes plus touch ups, and this brush releases lather very easily. I never thought I would truly enjoy this brush, but I do now. It's just vastly different from my 1/1 Super and custom Shavemacs, but that's what I like best about it. Also, it may be my imagination, but it seems the tips may have softened a little with use. Great little brush.

Excellent! I just ordered one (should arrive next week) and I'm glad to hear it does what it needs to do - if a bit floppily.

I just got mine today with the black handle. I must admit this thing is little. Much smaller then I imagined, but it is cute.

I guess that makes sense for a travel brush. I look forward to trying it out.

I don't get a feel of a general consensus one way or another so far. I have had this brush for about four months now and I intended to use it only for travel also. My daily brush is also an Edwin Jagger, a silvertip in medium. I love that brush! I did a couple of shaves wth the pure badger before I left for three weeks on the west coast. I probably would get the hang of it eventually, but in my first two attempts I found that I couldn't get the same amount of lather out of it. It was so much stiffer than the silvertip that I did all of my shaving with brushles creams while on vacation. I do get some good use of it though. I use it dry on my face on non shaving days to lift any potential ingrowns waiting to happen. So I guess to sum it up, I like the brush, but I think it holds a lot less water, It is noticably stiffer than my silvertip but still soft, it requires that you adjust to it's capabilities if you want enough good lather for four passes. I have only ever had one brush other than this one, so I have to believe that I was just not able the get the best of it on my forst two uses.
