eBay Sellers

Can anyone out there let me know if they have heard of an ebay seller named "cedarfurnitureman"? Seems to have some decent razors up for sale, but want to make sure he's legit. Also, what should the going rate be for a fatboy?

Ignoring, for now, his past relationship with this forum, I'd have to say that while he has a good variety of nice looking razors, his "Buy It Now" prices are several times what you'll find on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum of this site.

If you linger around here for a while, you should be able to find at least a shaver grade Fat Boy for $25, sometimes less.

pcullens, i wish i could give a helpful answer to your question. seems like the subject of this ebay seller is a contentious one? :confused1

As a quick summary, as I remember it, this seller used to offer a "homemade soap straight from grandma's recipe" for six or so dollars a puck. The question was raised as to whether or not it was indeed a homemade soap, as it looked very similar to a melt-n-pour soap that cedarfurnitureman simply claimed as his own. The seller refused to release the ingredients list, fearing someone would duplicate the soap. One member on BST vehemently defended the soap, and after many, MANY pages of discussion that drifted from the topics of the soap in question, to existentialism, to proper motor-vehicle care, a few members tried it and determined that the soap is indeed a melt-n-pour based product. If you search for his name on the site, you can read the 20+ pages yourself. The sellers wife is a member on the site, but neither she nor he ever stepped in to defend their product.

In regards to his razors, as stated above, they're usually good lookin, but BIN is oft on the high side.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Nice looking, appears to be in good shape, but a bit on the pricey side. In all honesty, pcullens, you're probably better off sticking to the BST.

I actually bought a puck of his soap. Go figure, had to see for myself. (Originally from the "Shoe Me State"). They were very nice and even included a hand written thank you note. Great ebay seller, their soap sucks :mad3::mad::lol:

They are legit. They spend a lot of time cleaning, polishing and sanitizing their razors. The photos on their listings are top notch. They try and ship the same day and they only use new priority mail boxes with super packing. I have bought several razors from them and have never been disappointed. Their pricing reflects the time and effort they put into it and while they are on the high side of center they are not the highest. You get what you pay for. You will find them to be very friendly with very good communications. They have gotten an unfair rap by some members of this forum.

His soap is the best, better than Penhaligons actually.

Going rate for a Fatboy? Right now the average price for a Fatboy in good condition, sans case, is right around $20 on eBay (I just did the math). The prices that some sellers ask are simply ridiculous, and these sellers often fail to disclose that the "perfectly shiny" razors they are selling have been replated. Now as far as CFM goes, his razors do seem to run a bit high, but he is not the highest priced seller on eBay by any means. He does take great pictures, I will add.

Also, if you are shopping for a Fatboy avoid any that come with a case, as the case jacks the price for an extra $20 or so.

Sorry Dex your math is misleading.
In the BIN listings there are 15 with an average price of $90.33. If you remove the 4 that have a BIN price over $100 the price is $63.09

There are 19 listings that have an opening bid average price of $16.17.

Four razors have 2 or more bids which average $20.38. These listings have not closed yet.

It appears to me that your $20 price is mostly for razors that nobody has bid on yet.

They've a history of dishonesty on B&B, with a demonstrated tendency toward agressiveness in response to customer service issues, according to some. One of those red flags would be enough to keep me away. Both of them combined = run in the other direction, IMHO.

(And it's not beyond comprehension that one or more of the replies to this thread could be them, given past behavior.)

Sorry to respond to an older thread...but I was very surprised to see any negative comments for Cedarfurnitureman. I have had four transactions with him through Ebay. They have been among the best of all my Ebay experiences in terms of complete and valid description, packaging, communication, and quick delivery. None of my transactions were BIN but I believe pricing remains at the seller's discretion. In as much as I own a great many razors, I am not upset that someone might be helping increase their FMV.

For other sellers....with one exception (where I did receive a full refund), I feel that all of my Ebay transactions have been very good.

in all honesty, they seem tp replate and then they say that the razor is original, 80 percemnt of their razors seem to be mint, i guess they dont sleep scouring the ends of the world for mint raazors...they replate. i did return a not as desrcibe item, they seem to honor their policy but thats because ebay are on the customer side now, if it wasnt for that im sure that they would be getting away with murder and not think twice. i wouldnt buy from them if i was cellector. razors are replates im sure

+1. I guess as long as you know going in that the razors are replated, and you are happy to have a replated razor, go for it. I just think they should be upfront about the fact that the razors they sell are replates.

to be fair and a little balanced; i've had one transaction with them; their description for the razor was spot on; it wasn't a replated razor and all minor defects, such as there were, were fully described, as was the condition of the case. shipping was very prompt and the razor was packed to prevent damage. their auctions seem to command premium prices, so that should tell you something about the quality of the stuff they sell and how their items are regarded. i know there has been some discussion of replating, but can't address that issue, as the item i purchased was clearly not replated, but not advertised as being in mint condition.

I have no dealings with this seller. But if you really want a Fatboy without taking your chances with quality from Ebay, I would suggest posting a WTB thread. You will likely get a more accurate description from a fine B&B member than you would from an Ebay seller. Anything you buy from Ebay is a crapshoot IMO.

I've yet to see a razor from them that was replated. The seller puts the razors through such a thorough cleaning process, including tumbling in a nut-shell media, that they just look so new when done, you think they have been replated. The only question I've ever had about this seller is simply.. how do they get so many darn razors?? As for their pricing, it seems so many of you - and by you, I mean people looking for razors and not specifically you - are willing and do pay top dollar for this seller's razors and as long as you continue to be willing and do, the prices will continue to be "too much". But in the end, it's not "too much" if that's what it's worth to you.

As for the "passed off a melt-and-pour soap" as the seller's own, I know nothing about that and I'd like to see which chemistry expert came to the conclusion that said soap was indeed such a soap. It's certainly not impossible to make your own melt-and-pour soap at home.
