Eau de Quinine as an Aftershave

I am planning on using Pinaud's Eau de Quinine as an aftershave after reading some people on here have done it with good results. Look what I won on Ebay to keep it in:

I can't wait to try it out. What do you guys think of the scent? To be honest, I have never smelled anything like quinine before.

I decided after a week of interviews that I deserve it. It's probably one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen and I had to have it. I think it is dated circa 1900. When I think of the history of events around that time and all of the things that have never even happened yet, it's breathtaking.

That's an amazing bottle! Kudos!

I heard quinine is a key ingredient of tonic soda water, which definitely has a particular bitter/sweet kind of smell. So I wonder if it smells a little like a gin & tonic?

Will be interested if you could post your description of the scent...perhaps after smelling some tonic water! :biggrin1:

Of course, I will add the obligatory Eau de Quinine from Pinaud:

I have never actually had gin and tonic. Just as an interesting fact for those who like history:

This cocktail was introduced by the army of the British East India Company in India. Tonic water contains quinine, which was used to prevent malaria. Because the tonic water consumed to prevent the malaria in the 18th century was extremely bitter, gin was added to make it more palatable.

Great bottle! I really like Pinaud EdQ as an after shave. I would have to get it out to describe the smell. I only had a 1 oz sample. If I ever see it in a brick and motar store for a reasonable price I will buy a whole bottle.

The color will look great in that bottle. I am not so found of the color as an aftershave though!

I got a bottle from that Gent Without Peer, the esteemed Mr. Nid Hog, as an extra in a transaction. I'd describe the scent from the bottle as a little medicinal, powdery and smokey. It's typical Pinaud, not something you'd pick out as pleasant, perhaps, but it grows on you.
