Durham Duplex question

Being a cheap , but adventourous person ,
recently I have reviewed the threads on this board and others concerning the durham duplem and how you can use carpet blades for shaving . I dont have one of these yet , but just the thought of using it seems inturiging to me and cheap and a experiance .

I headed down to the local Home depot yesterday and noticed they have personna carpet blades 100 for 9.97

Has anyone used these in thier durham

are they better or worse than the stanleys ?

And if anybody has done this about how many shaves did you get out of a blade , I have seen some say 8-9 shaves

I tried one after reading about them here also. It was a horrible experience. Those blades may cut carpet, but they are definitely not sharp enough to shave.

I have also read here about someone taking some of the original blades and a stropping attachment and bringing that back to shave ready. I don't have the links to it though.

My suggestion is if you want to try one, get one with the stropping attachment and original blades. Then see if you can bring one back to shave ready.

I read the post about using carpet blades and it just seemed like a terrible idea to me!

Having installed carpet, I can honestly say that I would never shave with one of those blades. Yikes!
Sharp, and shaving sharp, are two completely different things.

update : My wife surprised me and bought me a durham duplex off of ebay , so today off to the home improvement stores to find the stanley blades as these seem to be the preffered ones over the personnas , kobalts etc....

problem they only sell them in packs of 100 here and all i want a few blades just to see what it is like

so now here is my question for any one out there who has some of the stanley blades , can I possibley buy a few blades off you since i do not want to buy a pack of 100 of them at all. It woud be realy hard to justify that expense to my wife since 1) i am not a handy person at all 2) I have no intention of starting a carpet laying company in the near or distant future

if anyone can help it would be appreciated .

I am not expecting a great shave but since she bought it for me I feel I should give it the best shot I can give it to shave
