I think it should work very well. For $800, it had better.
The closest I have to a Rollagas is a gold Corona roller flint pipe lighter that looks and operates similarly. It’s as reliable as the Sun, but I rarely use it. Too nice, too dressy. A Rollagas would sit in the box around here.
For $800, you can buy four Old Boys. You can use one forever, and stare at the other two in their boxes. And give me one for the advice.
I have 2 and use them from time to time....the trick is to lean the pipe towards the flame since the Dunhill lighter's flame is vertical. There is an aftermarket pipe flame retro fit needle that's available, but that requires a total teardown of the needle assembly and that's something I didn't want to get into. Trust me...as long as you keep the Dunhill somewhat vertical, the flame at a length so it doesn't go across the bowl too far and lean into it they work quite well. I also have 2 Beattie Jet Lighters and 2 Nimrods, and a Rogers Jet Lighter as well. I reach for the Dunhill's because they hold fuel and they are ready to go...the rest need to be filled and last maybe a week....If i was smoking a pipe everyday I'm sure I'd use the others more often.
Here is a pic of what I have, the Beatty Jet lighter on the left is a first edition and the Nimrod on the right is unused. I had to rebuild the Dunhill on the right, while the one on the left was only filled and works perfectly. The Rogers Jet lighter looks and feels like a Zippo.
