What's new

Duke 2 is small.

Hello,

My first and only brushwas B&B Essential Brush and I have been using it for a couple ofmonths. I was looking for another brushand purchased a Duke 2, which I received today, based on reputation and it ismuch smaller than I expected. It is agood looking brush so I am going to keep it and use it after I find some clearnail polish to cover the sticker. What Simpson's is a similar size to the B&B Essential Brush?

It takes a larger boar to perform the same as a badger. Give it a month or two, and see if you still want a larger brush.

Oh, and I recommend against the nail polish. No need, and unless you are very careful it will be visible.

I have a Duke 3. I thought it was a bit small when I got it but it is more than big enough. And I head shave with it, too. I bet that Duke 2 will turn out to be a favorite after a month or two.

Agree on some of the Simpsons range "appearing" small when compared to other brushes, see below. But the knots are some of the densest and most effective you'll find. Ergonomically the Chubby 1 fits when I use a finger-tip grip whereas that SR 3824 sits in the palm. Diffo strokes, folks.

What part do you find small?
Having owned the b&b and now the duke2 my take is:
The knot for face lathering is very, very good and gets better after a week of use. There is no comparison to the b&b as they are completely different.

The duke2 handle is small but comfy. In that respect i found it better than the b&b, which I sold mainly on that account.

You will find the Duke 2 is the Goldilocks porridge of brushes.

Not to big. Not to small. It's just right

I have a Duke 3, which I really, really like. I face lather and the Duke 3 does a great job. Sometimes, I think it'd be a bit easier to control if it were smaller, like the Duke 2. I think you will enjoy it. Give it a chance.

I think I kind of know what you mean. I've got a brand new Chubby 2, and my first thought when I got it out of the box was that it's "small." Maybe it's something that happens with our expectations, when we're spending a lot on a "famous" brush it becomes larger in the mind's eye. In any case, I've used the brush probably 4 times now, and somehow it's getting bigger ;)

Maybe small if you bowl lather (and some would still argue that)... But for me the DUKE 2 is my go to face lathering brush for both soaps or creams. If you face lather you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

Keep us posted.

Yes, compared to other brands several Simpson brushes appear small, especially for the handle size. However, once you get used to them, they feel "just right" in your hand and on your face. The Duke 2, in particular, is one of my preferred brushes.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. I do plan on using it. It is a killer looking brush and the badger seems great and densely packed. I guess the brush seems small compared to the pics I have seen. I do wish the handle was a little longer but I do think I will get used to it. I should have known about the size/perception issue from looking at pictures of watches. You see a high res pic of something on a 27" monitor and you think it is such a nice touch, then when you get the item you cannot even see the little touches because they are so small.

mblakele, about the nail polish and the sticker, how is the best way to retain the sticker? I really love the look it brings to the brush. I think I am going to be a Simpson's fan.

I love my Duke2 in Best. Favorite brush so far. Alas, no sticker on mine! Clearly you're right to be concerned. Worst case scenario, Simpsons sells stickers.

I put a very thin coat of SWMBO's clear nail polish over the stickers on both of my Simpsons, just barely enough to see close to the light at an extreme angle. Whether it needs it or not, it helped me stop thinking about the stickers falling off.

I had more Simpson brushes than I can list. I've never thought twice about the sticker. And I've not had anu sticker issues.

IMHO... skip the nail polish.
