Dubl Duck Strop

I bought a straight razor lot from goodwill. Said it included 4 razors and 2 strops. well, i ended up with a henckels, shumate, diamondine (horse logo), and a Heckel Bros "Faust" with original box. All boxed although not original and approx 5/8 plastic handles.

My main question is regarding one of the strops. I got an old horse hide NY strop and a very nice dubl duck pearlduck strop with canvas. the dubl duck at the top is in red. it's in excellent condition: no tears, pliable, somewear to the logo but nothing serious. I'm curious as to the value of a vintage dubl duck strop. I will try to post some pics. thanks any info on other razors would be helpful. I'm planning to practice honing on at least one of them! lol

What Goodwill do you go to? Geesh, I've never found squat at any place like that. Congrats on a great find. Mind you sharing what you paid for these?

I am not sure of the value, but I have not found DD to make a bad product. I personally would saddle soap it and then treat it with neatsfoot or some other leather treatment and use it.
I am not into collecting and I prefer my own strops at this point, but if I were going to worry about value, put it on ebay and see just how much it goes for.

I actually got this off of shop goodwill .com. Paid around $70. It said 4 razors with boxes and two strops but couldn't make out any of the labels on straights and the strops weren't pictured. Ended up being quite a goodie box! I actually may keep this strop as it's nicer than the current one I have. I have some Fromm strop dressing. will that be enough?

It is really tough to tell the value of the strop from that one pic. I personally would have to hold it, examine it, and use it.

As long as their are no major tears, creases, folds, and a decent amount of stropping surface it should be an excellent strop. I found one of my Red Imp strops in good but very broken in condition and it is better than any of the newer stuff out right now except for some of the expensive Japanese strops

Thanks for the insight- I've picked up some valuable advice here and other places. Just wondering if it was a good deal on the lot.-not trying to put it on ebay. I'd actually like to just keep it as my primary strop. So far so good! The razors in less than good shape are being used for honing practice! LOL

it probably wouldn't fetch too much on ebay unless it is in really good broken in condition and you had the proper pics to prove it.

Usually when you buy an old strop old ebay you are taking a major gamble.
Usually people just post 2 pics of the strop...one long one of the front....one long one of the back.

This doesn't allow to be able to tell much and the people selling the strops are completely clueless about them. Many of times the actual storage of the strop has damaged it over the years

The DD Cordovan is their top of the line strop. I have the model 50 which is the extra heavy horse which is just below that and in better shape than yours but I got mine on Eboy about 5 years ago and as I recall I paid about $60 for it.

I paid $50 shipped for mint DD Cordovon Special #1. Looks like that one except the hardware and lettering is gold colored instead of silver. The ducks are red on mine too. I also have a DD 50/50 in nice shape that I paid $25 for. Let me know if you want to sell it.. might be interested! :001_smile
