Dropped some dough on a vacuum

So when I moved off to college 6 years ago I bought myself a vacuum. It was a cheaper Kenmore, but I loved the fact that the power cord would draw back into the unit with a push of a button. For 6 years it worked just fine, I lived in the same condo for the entirety of my college career. After college I moved into a house, and also got my first dog. He is a 110 pound golden who sheds like there is no tomorrow, and the Kenmore couldn't handle it.

So this weekend I bought a new Dyson DC33 plus. I can't tell you guys how amazing this vacuum is. It's incredibly light, ergonomic, and does a wonderful job at sucking up dust and pet hair. I vacuumed my house with the old Kenmore before I went back over it with the new Dyson. I lifted up 4 more loads of dirt, dust, and hair....unbelievable. I was never into the Dyson hype, but now I absolutely am.

Anyone else have a Dyson? Love it as much as I do?

I like my Dyson too. Many people pan them as overpriced, but the first time I did my house I swear I had to empty the cannister 3 or 4 times...really gross. I have had if for 7 years so far with no problems.

Found a discarded Kirby G5 on the side of the road with the accessories. Needed a new belt and actually bought a kirby technical care manual to do a complete teardown/cleaning.

Works fine and is probably the most extreme vacuum cleaner I've ever encountered- thanks to it I've pretty much never had to worry about losing an apartment security deposit over poor rug status.

Your right Taproot, Kirby has the most power, I used to restore them and have a G5 as well, don't have as many now, but this 1965 is my favorite! these things like DE razors last forever and perform $2012-09-02_16-54-52_429.jpg

That's awesome. I read some reviews that said they were too expensive and didn't last, but many people apparently have had theirs for many years. Dyson FTW

I've pulled a lot of carpet off floors. One thing I can tell you is that the fine dirt makes it through the pad to the floor. Often I can follow the "paths" where the occupants walked the most by following the heaviest concentrations of dirt. No vacumn can pull it back through the pad and carpet, but regular vacumning can reduce it.

I was asked once what the "best" vacuum was and my reply was "one that's used". Not one that comes out of the closet once every week but one that is run over the carpet three times a week. I do have whole house vacuum now :)

Kirby G6 here. It's a monster of a vacuum. I recently was able to try a little Oreck and have to say I was quite impressed.

I've also got a Dyson. It was a big improvement from the cheap-o model I picked up when I first moved out on my own (I imagine almost any upgrade make/model would have been an improvement).

I like the Dyson's longer cord, tool set, and length of hose. I don't like the beater bar disengage feature when I try and vacumn the area run we have under our dining table. As soon as that rug lifts a little bit, the Dyson lets out that teeth clenching buzz.

Problems with certain area rugs is my only complaint with the Dyson DC14 we've had since '04. Fortunately most of our house is wall-to-wall carpet.

When a bachelor, I had an old *** cannister model. When it finally broke down, SWMBO insisted on a Dyson.

Expensive.

But I spent less on that than on wetshaving, and we're both happy. (And yes, I do actually vacuum occasionally.)

I have a DC24 canister vacuum, I say it's the vacuum for people who don't like to clean. Often times I'll put on the hard floor attachment and run it up the the walls and even on the ceiling.

Never tried a Dyson. I've heard great things. Picked one up and it was too flimsy and plasticy. Had 4 Kirby's, they all got trashed. Junk. Had a couple of Electrolux (now Aerus), best machine around. I've ran them all until the wheels fell off and it wasn't worth fixing anymore (to me, at least). Have a Rainbow now. Hate it. Cleans well, a PITA to operate. Mrs. wants another Electrolux/ Aerus.
