Dropped Razor?

My razor was hanging up in the shower (I know, not a good idea), and it fell a few times in the last week. One side still works just fine, perhaps even better (?), but the other side barely works at all. Obviously something got bent, so is there any hope of fixing it, or should I just buy a new razor?

Second question - it is a Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Safety Razor and it worked out well for me after a few weeks of getting used to it. I'm about 3 months in so far. Suggestions for the next step, since I'm likely buying a new one soon anyway?

If it really is bent, you should be able to inspect it visually ... perhaps the blade no longer sits parallel to the safety bar? If so, you might try holding it by the non-sharp edges as you tighten it down. That's about the only fix you can do yourself. If the metal is bent, just go buy a new one.

As for your next razor, there are a hundred different directions you can go ... since you got good results from the 34C, you might want to stay with the Merkur line, and get a Progress, so you can try out an adjustable. If you do get a Progress, you'll also want an upgrade knob, whether from Mer, cooncatbob, or Pureslab.

I can't picture an easy way of realigning a bent-up razor, and considering it's only half-usable now, I'd definitely be looking for a replacement. I'm pretty new to DE shaving also, started out with a Parker 82R (not bad), but recently purchased an Edwin Jagger DE98L, and highly recommend it. Not only is it a gorgeous, high-quality piece of hardware, but it shaves like a dream.

If you do get a new razor, you might want to think about a more-secure storage arrangement...frequent drops into the shower is going to get expensive! :001_rolle
