DRH Windsor Cologne - Any Comments?

I bought a sample of the Windsor aftershave and I liked it, plus my wife really likes it. I'll get the soap, aftershave and debating on the cologne. Anyone have any thoughts. I don't own any cologne, use just an aftershave, so not sure about it. What I would hope is that the cologne might make the scent last longer, but not "stronger" or more intense. Thanks.

I got a decant of it. Like it a whole lot; it doesn't last very long, though.
I'm told it is a copy of Terre d'Hermes. Which I also got a decant of, but only very recently. I think the Terre d'Hermes has a more going on in the drydown (i.e., more complex), but still doesn't last long enough. Longer than the Windsor. But I've worn one spray once only, so I'm not altogether sure yet.

Given the pricing, I consider the DRH Windsor all the time. The only reason I haven't bought a bottle is that I still have some of my decant yet, and have been exploring other samples. But I think that's a pretty safe EdT choice. Good stuff.

If you like the scent of the soap and aftershave, I think getting the cologne would be a good decision.

I have the cologne; I really like it. The longevity isn't great but I can get a whiff of it throughout the day at work.

Terre d'Hermes parfum (not the EdT) will cure your longevity problems and is much richer. Or you could step up to Montale's Red Vetyver which is in this same vein and altogether a better, higher quality scent.

I've got a sample of the D.R. Harris Windsor EdT, and while I like the smell, the longevity isn't great for me. I also just ordered a sample of the Terre d'Hermes EdT from Garry's Sample Shop.

Is the longevity the biggest difference between Terre d'Hermes Edt vs. Terre d'Hermes parfum, or do you find the scents different as well? Comments on Basenotes seem to indicate that the EdT and Parfum smell different. Is that what you've found?

Sounds amazing . Thanks for the recommendations. I'd need to find decants. Those things, Montale especially, are budgetary challenges.

If you find a reliable source for decants of the Terre d'Hermes parfum, please post it here. I'd like to get a decant of that one, too.

Sounds like it would be a good fit for you. I wore it for a while, but grew tired of it (as I do most fragrances pretty rapidly it seems). It is pretty heavy on the black pepper though. Oranges and black pepper is pretty much what you get with Windsor. It is a great deal though. A relatively low cost fragrance......

I get the comparisons to TdH, but they are different. Windsor has way, way more pepper in it. It is not simply a clone. If it was meant to be, they did a poor job.

Outside of B&B vendors, I highly recommend Surrender to Chance or The Perfumed Court for decants. Selection is better, but shipping is slower with the latter. I don't have enough experience with the TDH EdT vs. the parfum from a notes standpoint, but I understand that there is some very slight differences. I know I've sprayed the pure parfum on before and it lasts until the cows come home.

Of them all, the Montale is probably the most potent and uses the highest quality natural ingredients and will win every time in a longevity contest. If you like this frag style (citrus, pepper, vetiver), it's not to be missed.

Thanks for all the replies. I wanted to get it before Christmas so pulled the trigger today. First trifecta for me - soap, aftershave, and cologne so I'll see how it goes. If I end up like using cologne, I may have to try and get some samples of the recommended TDH and Montale. Of course, had to get free shipping so bought a refill puck of Arlington to go with my previously purchased Arlington AS. Thanks & happy holidays.

tehtimmeh is dead-on accurate about the Windsor cologne having a lot of Pepper. More (relative to everything else) than the Terre d'Hermes for sure. I'm ok with the pepper and like the Windsor a whole lot. It is definitely simpler than Terre d'Hermes, but less pricey. Maybe on your skin it'll last longer. I'd have to carry some for a re-spray after lunch if I wanted to get through a whole work day with it. And then again if I wanted to get into the evening for any length of time. (I have not done this, mind you, I'm just noticing that it largely -- or completely -- dies down after 3-4 hours). I'd prefer the Terre d'Hermes, and now am intrigued by the Red Vetyver; but the DRH is still very well priced for what it is, IMO. I might still get some after emptying the little decant I have.

My review of DR Harris Windsor:
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...the-Day-2012?p=4476411&highlight=#post4476411

Windsor opens with fresh orange peel lasting about 5 minutes before dry woody note comes forward. For the first couple hours I primarily get this woody note with some leather and pepper in the background. After a couple hours the pepper comes forward and this is my favorite phase in the development of the frag, lasting a couple more hours until the end. The difference between these two frags is that the pepper is much more pronounced in Windsor through the drydown while lacking the sweet synthetic orange that remains with Terre d'Hermes through drydown. Projection and longevity are similar between these two on my skin, with Windsor perhaps lasting a tad longer. I definitely prefer DR Harris Windsor to Terre d'Hermes.

This is how I would rank this weeks frags:
1.Borsari Acqua Classica
2.D R Harris Windsor
3.Yardley London Citrus & Wood
4.Hermes Terre d'Hermes Parfum
5.Hermes Terre d'Hermes
6.Montale Red Vetyver
