What's new

Domenico Caraceni

I received my bottle last night from Lucky Scents. This unique EdT is simply AMAZING! StylinLA & Marco's review of this are spot on. They said it best when describing DC. Spend the $$ this is worth it.

I just ordered the shave cream from lucky scent and requested a sample of the EdT. Hopefully I'll get one, so that I know if it is bottle purchase worthy.

Considering they gave me some Le Labo vetiver and MPG RdV from my last order on request I'm sure they'll send me some of this stuff to sample.

Can't wait

My absolute favourite cologne. Thanks for the kind words of appreciation.

I have a sample of this and I have enjoyed pulling it out and putting a drop on my wrist from time to time. I need to do a more thorough comparison between D&C 1913 and C&S #88, and C&S Dark Rose. My not completely developed impression is that D&C 1913 is not as dark/complex as C&S #88, and therefore is really quite different, but may be more similar to C&S Dark Rose. But again, I'm not settled on this yet.

A sample came to me yesterday. Tried a little spritz on the back of my hand and I think I fell in love :001_tt1:

Not to redirect the thread, but my last time at Scent Bar, the owner steered me to another scent when he found out I liked DC 1913.

It's called Gianni Campagna. Bottle looks similar to DC except it's more of a gold color.

Gianni Campagna is evidently another high end Italian tailor who bought out Domenico Caraceni.

I'm surmising both scents are technically from the same house.

Test wearing it right now and it is quite nice. But it has a strong similarity to Terre D'Hermes. Very similar. Very clean. Want to see how it lasts.

I've got to get my hands on a decant of this. I've been eyeing it for a while. No. 88 was the best of the horrid C&S line imo but there was still a note in it that didn't quite work for me.

If this stuff is similar without that "note" then I think we will have a winner gentlemen.

It's interesting that you bring the these fragrances up together. I'm wearing Domenico Caraceni now from a nice sample that I got this summer, and I'm thinking very seriously about buying a bottle. At the same time, I've been tempted to buy a bottle of Terre d'Hermes instead. What to do?

I personally am not all that fond of DC 1913. I much prefer, say, Black Aoud, along somewhat similar lines. On the other hand, I know that DC 1913 has extremely strong advocates. If I loved it that much I would not want to do without it.

On the other hand, I cannot imagine not having Terre d'Hermes. Of course, I do not buy much in the way of full bottles of anything!

Nid/Knize- Just to be clear- it's not DC 1913 that smells like Terre D'Hermes, it's another scent from the same basic company called Gianni Campagna. They have it at Scent Bar and the owner gave me a sample since he knew I liked DC 1913 and Gianni Campagna is another obscure Italian fragrance from a high end tailor. The Campagna is quite nice and it is like a slightly different take on TdH. Most likely "inspired" by TdH. But it was nice in its own right.

DC 1913 is a lot like No. 88, but more of a classic chypre in its development.

Thanks, SLA. I was absolutely certain that DC 1913 is pretty far off TdH. I am guessing that TNH was as well, but should have made that clear. I meant to respond to TNH without indicating that DC and TdH were similar. Actually, I am more interested in the Campagna based on your description. I have sampled DC 1913 on several occasions. I could live without DC 1913. Not sure I could re TdH!

If you really love TdH, Gianni Campagna may be worth a sample. But, my familiarty with TdH is not as in depth as yours, you may find it too similar. I can't say whether it's more potent, or tell where the variations lie. I have briefly tested both, and find them kind of close to each other. It's pricier, and since it was likely inspired by TdH, one has to question whether it's worth it.
I did kind of like it though.

Actually, I don't mean that they (DC and Hermes) are anything alike. I've just been debating about which one to buy--the choice between the two comes down to a lot of reasons, but none relate their similarities. Just two different ways to allocate my discretionary funds!

Well, one thing to consider is that you are far less likely to run into someone else wearing DC 1913.
