Dog Training Collars

Hi Everyone
I have a 3 yr. old Golden Retriever and have use a training collar for a year or more now, I hate to be without one now, the one I have is starting to "act up", plus I lost the antenna off of it.
I do not need a long range 30 or 40 yards would do.
It does need to be waterproof, as the dog is in the water a lot.
And I do not want to spend much more then a hundred dollars.
If anyone has one that fits this description that they would recommend I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Sorry. I use the entry level tri-tronics and it is great. No problems whatsoever for 3 years or so. Has handled snow, water, rain, mud, etc like a champ. But it's substantially more than $100.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to up that to $200.00 , or due without.

That's not far off of mine then. I have the sport basic model. As I said above it has worked quite well for me. The prongs have no trouble getting through my golden retriever's very thick coat, the batteries are rechargeable and even though by now they are several years old they still have plenty of juice for a long day in the field or numerous shorter training sessions. The range is a half mile but I never work my dog out anywhere close to that. I'd guess that might be a problem if you were running hounds or something but for retrievers it's more than enough.

The adjust-ability of the severity of the nick lets me use the bare minimum to get the point across. I like the buzz feature too as it allows me to give a warning before I nick which frequently is enough to break through the brain fog and make him remember his training. And you can add up to 2 more (3 total) collars to the same remote. I just have the one dog so we only have one collar but we may be getting another pup some time in the next year. So it'll be nice to have to eventually have the option to just pick up an extra collar and work both of them at the same time.

And as I said above, the durability of both the remote and the collar are impressive. I'm sure I'm not the toughest user of these things by any means but after 3 years or so the collar and remote both look almost new. There's a couple of scratches in the plastic but they are minimal and purely cosmetic.

I have not used any other models on the market. The pro trainer who did a lot of the initial field training on my dog uses a higher end tri tronics model so that's the brand I went with. I bought it from gun dog supply. They were very good and shipped fast and free. I know they carry several other brands that are somewhat cheaper and probably will be plenty good for what you want.

Just thought I would mention that the "Sport Basic" is on the way , form "Gun Dog".
Thanks for the tip.

Congrats. Enjoy. Can we get a picture of your pup?

Tri-tronics also has a trade up program if you ever lose part of your system and they can't find a replacement. I lost a collar on an older model and was got a large discount off of a new g3 exp. Not as nice as the Pro 200 I lost but it gets the job done. Two years of heavy pheasant hunting in South Dakota and it still looks new.
