Does the Duke rival the Rooney 1/1?

Short lofted, soft tipped brushes with a stubby syle handle. Ideal for face lathering soaps.

The Duke doesn't get much attention these days. Is it a rival for the 1/1 or has the quality of Simpfix's dropped too much?

I have a pre-Vulfix Duke 3 and it is one of my favorite brushes. I have a Rooney 3/1 and all I can say is if I had to choose, I would have to give the nod to the Duke 3.

Great soap brush. A little softer and less scritchy than the Rooney but a great brush for face lathering. It could very well be my favorite brush along with my Vulfix-made Simpson two-banded Tulip 2.

I have a Vulfix Duke 3 and although I don't have a Rooney I'd say it's a bit too soft for face lathering and soap use, but the loft is nearly 50 mm which I think is a little high even by vulfix standards.

I have an original Simpson Duke 3 which were made with a loft of 46 mm. The original Duke was a gem. Great size, density was just right. Its a little on the scrubby side but still plenty soft. I had been told that Vulfix was making them with longer lofts which would change the character of the brush quite a bit from what it had been. Mine is a great soap brush, not sure I have even tried it with a cream. I had a 3/1 at one time and its no longer here but the Duke is.

Of all the Vulfix Simpsons I've tried, the Duke 3 is my favourite. I've read about the longer lofts but mine is short 45mm-ish. It's nice and scrubby without being too hard on the face. I find that it's like a slightly less dense Chubby 1 with a bigger handle! Really good value.
