What's new

Does anyone share their shaver with the better half?

I'm trying to get my wife to start DE shaving and she brought up sharing my razor. What do you guys think? I have a Muhle 89 and use feather blades. Would this be alright to share starting out to make sure she likes the DE shaving?

I did order her soap so she doesn't smell like man all day long :)

Maybe throw in an Astra SP at first but go for it! My wife has her own setup that I got her which was a Parker (lady gillette copy) and a Gillette Knack. She uses all of my stuff whenever she wants to try new things but has her own soaps and brush and all that. She says she won't ever go back to a cart.

I tried to get her into wet shaving with no luck. I even offered to let her use my supplies. Nothing.

She tends to think that this is a fad I'm in and will pass. It won't, but she doesn't know that!

My wife thought that too, but after a year she has accepted it and finds it cute (weird when i take pictures of my gear).

Go ahead and share. Might want to change the blade. Dunno. I bought a Lady Gillette for my wife without asking if she wanted to try. She's only used it twice but she says it is only because she doesn't have time for the shave.

My wife "appropriated" one of my Superspeeds a few months ago. I'm onto straights now so it doesn't bother me, I've got more DE's than I know what to do with anyway...

I first lent my wife a spare super speed I have. Now she is using my 41' Aristocrat that needs to be replated. She likes how heavy it is and how it feels in her hand. She also likes the closeness she gets when shaving with it. Unfortunately she is fairly ill and is on so many medications her hair doesn't grow that fast anymore. She is blond and not hairy to begin with. So, it's not all that often she feels well enough to either stand in the shower long enough to wash hair/body and shave, or sit in the bath long enough. I've helped her sometimes too.

Hopefully we can get her health back on track so she can enjoy many more things in life again...including shaving.

Back in the 60's I was sharing a apartment with 3 girls and went to shave one morning and almost screamed from the pain of a very used razor blade. One of my roomies thought she had Crabs and decided to use my razor to de-hair down there. Of course no one told me till after the fact, she was cute but there are limits.

Gift her a Merkur fat-handle, like this:

If I were still cycling competitively (and by extension, still shaving my legs), this is what I would want to have with me in the shower/tub. IIRC Merkur designed these for men with arthritis in the hands, but I would imagine they're also excellent for shaving south of the collar.

My wife's response to this thread was "eww that's disgusting, it's like using someone else's toothbrush" she knows I mainly own vintage razors and has no problem with that since I clean them but if the razor is actively being used then she says no. Of course she followed that comment in a semi needy voice "I want to DE shave toooo!" .. hah thanks now I have to buy her a clean Lady Gillette..

Nope...
My wife stealing my carts in the past was one reason I switched over to DE shaving.
I wanted something different she wouldn't want to mess with.

Whatever it takes.
I bought my wife a vintage Lady Gillette Blue. She shaves with it, but will not clean it or change blades. I'm happy to do that for her since it keeps her involved in my hobby that she still thinks is a bit loony.

Mine has a de89 head to herself (I didn't use it anymore), and calls me into the bathroom to make her lather and load the razor. She seems to like the Weber handle the best. I'm happy to do it because she's engaging in my hobby, but also because it's something we can do together for a few minutes during our busy days.
