does Alum - Really - improve electric shaves? has anyone tried it before?

i was shopping around for an alum block when i stumbled upon this website selling an Omega alum stuck claiming the following:
To improve your electric shave, pass the wet block over the area to be shaved and wait a few moments before shaving.
im a DE person for the most part, but will occaisonally whip out the foil shaver for a quick pass after work, wondering if i should try it out!

So after a couple of weeks trying this , alum block on to wet face then shaving.

Braum M90 battery travel shaver
Store bought alum block

Shaved before showering

I can safely say it made no difference at all for me. In fact if anythink it made my skin a bit more sticky than without. No difference in shave quality.

YMMV

interesting, SN's website said to let the face to dry again before shaving.
i have also noticed that the OSMA alum block also suggests using it before electrical shaving.

Depends on your face and technique. Alum is an astringent that essentially "shrinks" your skin by removing water (similar to witch hazel but stronger), so it makes facial hair "stand up" straighter out of the follicle, making it easier to cut. So for dry shavers pre-shave, works well. For wet shaving, not so much. DE wet shavers use it basically as a skin tonic following a shave, again like witch hazel. It's also irritating to some, so cautious experimenting is warranted.
