Does a slant dull a blade quicker?

Hello,
I had an odd experience shaving this morning. My slant (37c) was loaded with a Gillette yellow sharp edge with three shaves on it and I lathered up some arko in a bowl. First attempt at my normal WTG was met with a substantial amount of pulling, where normally this blade cleanly cuts though my stubble. I figured that my lather was the problem because I did not laod as much as I could have. I mixed up a new batch with much nicer later, and tried again. Same thing, lots of pulling, so I tossed the blade and loaded up a feather. Turned into a great shave, one of the best so far actually. In my 23c I get four shaves out of the yellows and then toss them, I never wait for them to dull, and I track the number of shaves on each blade by tearing off a tab on the blade wrapper. Never had pulling with this blade before, especially with only three shave. one of these shaves was a half straight razor, half DE shave, so the blade had really little use on it. So what happened? Could it be that the slant dulled the blade faster or was this just a freak occurrence, perhaps with a flawed blade?

I have not noticed that with my Slant. It could be freak occurrence, but it could also be that the Yellow blade might not be a compatible blade combo with the Slant, for you. I have noticed that some blades which don't last very long in one razor last and perform better in another razor.

Some blades yes. I only seem to get 3 shaves out of my 39C with a Shark and Yellow 7'Oclocks. Still getting 4-5 shaves out of a feather. YMMV etc. :)

If anything, I would think that slants increase blade mileage as they are slicing hair more than chopping it straight off, like all other DEs. I also just don't like yellows, try some black or blue 7OClocks in your slant.

That's really hard to answer, as you can see from the replies already given.

Since everyone is different its hard to give advice on blade performance or life of that blade. You've just got to keep trying different blades until you find your own best.

A de razor is designed to hold the blade in place..nothing more..YMMV is relative to the blade your using..just my $.02
