I thought I read somewhere that you need to do something to the DMT before you use it to hone?
Help me out here.

Rub the flat part of a chisel back and forth across it for a while until you notice the scratch pattern becoming a bit smoother.
No need to be dainty about it, have at it. Seriously.
You don't want to bear down too hard, but you do want to maintain good contact.
I have chisels AND big screwdrivers, so I'll see what works best, when they arrive...Or get a full wedge with a chip, frown, and crooked spine. By the time you get an edge on it, it'll be broken in! Worked for me LOL. JK good advice given above. I use the shank of a big screwdriver. Wet.
gotchaI liked using soapy water to help lube it up
As Obiwan told me there is a "break in" period..."sharpen a non serrated kitchen knife!
Why stop at one kitchen knife? I'm sure there are more than a few that need a touch of sharpening.
