DMT Break-In ?

I thought I read somewhere that you need to do something to the DMT before you use it to hone?
Help me out here.

Rub the flat part of a chisel back and forth across it for a while until you notice the scratch pattern becoming a bit smoother.

No need to be dainty about it, have at it. Seriously.

You don't want to bear down too hard, but you do want to maintain good contact.

Thx, I remembered something about a chisel but I wasn's sure what part you use.

Or get a full wedge with a chip, frown, and crooked spine. By the time you get an edge on it, it'll be broken in! Worked for me LOL. JK good advice given above. I use the shank of a big screwdriver. Wet.

I have chisels AND big screwdrivers, so I'll see what works best, when they arrive...
Thanks for the reply.

And this process "does" work - my DMT 1200 now leaves shallower scratches after this "process" - definitely more mellow now

I used an old kitchen cleaver at a shallow angle to tame the beast. Benefit is: I now have a useful chopping machine.
