Dings in my handle

Howdy,

In the process of drilling out my handle to accomodate the knot, I managed to ding it up a bit in the vice. Any good suggestions to try to make it better. Here's a picture to show the dings. Some on the bakelite (I think it is), some on the rubber. I can live with them but if I can get them out I'd like to.

Be careful polishing butterscotch. You may polish away the patina and end up with the original ivory color. (That being said, I'm not sure if this particular style of handle was originally made to be that butterscotch color, or if it got there through the aging process.)

Got ya. I may just leave well enough alone.

Wicked bummer on the dings. Lesson learned, though. The dings on the top part can be smoothed out with some polish (and possibly some wet sanding if they're deep).

(And howdy to a fellow Mainer--I'm originally from The County!)

Thanks WWYD. Glad to see you escaped the potato fields.

Wet sand. I'd get rid of the casting lines, too. 220 to 330 to 400 to 600 grit and some polishing compound. The rougher grits will really take some material quickly, so be careful, but that handle would look great with just a little more work.

+1 on this. The bottoms of these are the color they are, no butterscotching to them from the couple that I have done. The inside is the same color as the outside, but I wouldn't go sanding on them. I would wet sand like mentioned above and leave the bottom.
