Different Approaches for Keeping Consistent Lather in Between Passes?

I've been thinking about this lately, as I've been getting some inconsistent lather each time I relather. The way I see it, there are several options (assuming you have perfect lather for the first pass). If you leave your brush in a scuttle or heat it somehow, doesn't it dry out a little bit due to the water evaporating? Then you could compensate that by doing a hot water rinse and leaving the water on your face before lathering again, but this has left me with inconsistent results. Maybe you could also not do hot water rinse, and instead add a couple drops water to the brush before relathering, but I assume this also takes experience to feel it right to get it to the same consistency. Or you could just not heat the brush at all and not rinse your face at all, but for me the brush gets too stiff if it's cold. What works best for you guys?

No answers, but...

This is one of the reasons I took to face lathering. My brush scuttle moves water from the top to the bristle end of the brush, especially if it's real hot. To get the lather consistent on subsequent passes takes some work with the brush to even it out, so I just skip the first lather building phase altogether. I also find it easier to correct lather on my face than in a bowl. It's just my answer, and I happen to be backsliding on it lately, sometimes doing a little bowl lathering first so I have enough later.

I think the original question is fundamentally flawed. In other words, I don't really aim for the same consistency of lather between passes. I want my first pass lather to be thick and cushioning. The second pass lather should be slightly slicker and not as cushioning. For a third-pass lather, ideally I'd want the lather very slick.

In other words, cushioning becomes less and less important, and slickness more and more important over the course of a 3-pass shave.

Conveniently, when I make an appropriate first-pass lather, and rinse my face between passes, the lather is progressively wetter, thinner, and slicker over the course of the shave, which suits its purposes perfectly.
