I just ordered a Merkur 1904/1906 DE Razor. I am wondering if I choose a good starting razor or not.
Did I get a good starting razor?

The Merkur 1904 is my go-to razor. It will be a good solid performer for both starting out and experienced wetshavers. Nice choice. 
I got the same as my first razor. Fear not, it is wonderful.
Consider it Merkur's version of the venerable Gillette Tech. It's a solid, proven design, and a good DE to start out.
It's a nice razor. Enjoy your shaves with it.
I ended up with one of those for Christmas (was supposed to be the OC version) It is a very nice shave, and seems both effective and forgiving. I have had two of my best shaves yet with it. I like the weight in the handle.

Welcome! The Merkur shave head is very popular. I prefer a long-handled, heftier model but even so, it's a good tool for noobs and old hands you've got there.

Precisely! I find it a very good match to the Tech. With a sharp blade, this little gem is great. Now, mind you, it won't replace my 15C or Muhle R89, but it is good to have on hand -- especially for untried blades...
