Detroit Metro Driving

Okay I have to vent

Whats with people making a left turn from the inside of two left turn lanes and go to the outside! Cutting off whoever they need to.

If you are turning left onto a one way with the people across from you are turning right and you do not have a green arrow you do not have the right of way. That right you have to sit and wait your turn. It is not okay to assume that if you just gunnit people will just let you go

Hall Rd is just awful - cant wait for the shopping season to start :mad3:

Okay I am done maybe

I hear ya! Downtown here there is a 2 lane one way road, with two left turning lanes on to another 2 lane one way road.

Folks will be driving in the right lane, merge in to the left lane for the turn, and then cut across traffic back to the right lane after the turn to make another turn on the next cross street.

And if you don't stop to let them cut across traffic you will be on the curb or have a dent in your car.

I don't get it! both lanes turn left....if you just stay in the right turning lane (the one you are already in!) you will be in the lane you need to be in to make the next right turn at the cross street! no need to cause an accident getting BACK in the lane you just got OUT of.

yet it happens every time I drive through that intersection. every time, never fails. You can pretty much be sure 100% of the cars that get in the left lane to turn will merge back in to the right lane after the turn. Stupid.

I used to run into the same thing when I lived in Frederick, MD. The SR85/SR355/South Market St. interchange was my nemesis. Northbound you had two lanes each of SR85 and SR355 that merged into two lanes of Market St. and a lefthand turn lane to the on ramp of I-70 eastbound. I can't count the number of times I had to get on the interstate because some idiot in the righthand lane switched to the left mid-intersection.

I invite you for a drive through Amsterdam or Paris (or Athens) :001_tongu

But indeed, some people have no idea of what is actually happening outside their car.

@deruitem - I'm not usually on that side of town, but I hear you. No one knows how to handle 4 way stops either.

I don't understand whats the problem. I'm a safe driver.

I grew up and learned to drive I the Detroit area. Each place I've moved to it has seemed that the drivers have been worse. Maybe it wasn't the places, it's just that drivers everywhere are getting worse. Not just cell phones, but seemingly having absolutely no clue about or regard for the rules of the road...

Best defense is a good offense. Once you learn what the morons do, you anticipate.

By the way, friendly tip: If you are driving in Tampa and you are at a stop light, wait and count one mississippi two mississippi three mississippi when the light turns green before you go. The people behind you will honk, but you do not want to get t-boned by the moron who runs the red light. It was that way 30 years ago and the same every time I've been back. Don't know why, but Tampa drivers run red lights like I have never seen anywhere else.

EDIT:. Chaloney, am I right? Is it still like that there?

I'm not sure Chaloney hasn't nailed it .. The Motown is bad but so was the Windy last time, as was Atlanta in the Spring. Morons should be banned from breeding, or maybe that's what cell phones are for? The trouble is, like the lightnin', it ain't always aimed right ..

I got hit from behind on the other side of town (10 mile), election day the stupe didn't allow for cars stopped to make a left into the church polling place. I saw the ditz coming but nowhere to go, she was going maybe 55 in a 40, I could see her glance up too late. When she got out of her car, she was yelling at me for stopping, with the cell in one hand & coffee in the other. She somehow spilled the coffee
