Destin Florida?

I just returned from a cold weather vacation, now I need a warmer vacation spot. : )

Anyone know much about Destin? I want to go next month when the kids have spring break. Are the beaches nice there? Is there much to do?

Hey Wendy How you doin':001_cool: I am teaching a DE womens leg shaving class that week that you should check out - No I'm not - kidding

The Big Kahuna water park will prob. be the place also "the Track" - go kart and bumper boats, Henderson state park beach - The boardwalk - Lots of sunset boat trips - dolphin watching.

Asking if the beaches are nice in Destin is like asking if they have beaches in Destin. ;) Yes, Destin has some beautiful beaches as does Fort Walton, Pensacola, Orange Beach, and Gulf Shores. Destin is probably the most quiet spot of all of the local North Florida, South Alabama beaches and is still very much a sleepy little beach town. If you like to eat, make sure to stop by McGuire's Irish Pub and have an Irish Wake and their Irish Stew. Stop by AJs and eat crab until you burst. The Track is fun as is Big Kahuna. The Village is great to check out at night for a little more adult fun.

Just be warned, Spring Break? The traffic is bloody horrendous.

Ah Destin. Some of the best beaches in the country. There is a bit of Southern Alabama to it though. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the panhandle is very different from the rest of coastal Florida.

I heartily agree with McGuire's Irish Pub. The original is in Pensacola, but the Destin one is just as good. Be sure to scrawl something on a dollar bill, staple it to the bar, and then kiss the moose.

As said above, Destin is a lot different than the rest of Florida. Except for spring break, IMO it tends to be on the quiet side. I'm a lot further south than Destin and was surprised at how much cooler the temperature was when I went there last spring. The beaches are OK but IMO not as nice as they are further south. Another nice place for dining was the Cuvee Bistro.

Destin is great for family's. I lived in Fort Walton for 4 years and my wife grew up there. The sand is some of the best in the world. The water is OK. Golf is great.

McGuires is a must for burgers and 18cent bean soup.

I initially thought you were kidding, LOL. I am happy you clarified. When is the class?

The trip I just returned from should have been somewhere in the Caribbean but "someone" let their passport expire. (not me) We had a few glitches after that anyway and did not even confirm a flight until 10 hours before we left. We went to Park City UT for some snowboarding and left the kids behind. So this vacation I will be bringing kids and need a non-Miami atmosphere. I just want to be able to wear shorts and stick my toes in some sand. And of coarse eat good food. Vacation is not a real vacation without gaining a few pounds.

Hi Wendy: Destin is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The sugar white sands and emerald colored water is heaven-like. One thing I love about the panhandle of Florida is the "quietness" and it's friendly people. Check out "The Donut Hole" for some good breakfast and donuts.

When is spring break and where do you plan to stay? Typically during spring break college students from all over the SEC inundate Destin. The beaches are some of the nicest I've been too. And there is a lot to do as well. Not sure if the track and big kahunnas will be open then since it isn't the summer months. They might be though. Definitely check out the baytown warf in Sandestin, there are lots of restaurants and the have a lot of other activities to do as well.

This is a picture from spring break. However, it is only one area of Destin, so It all depends on where you are staying.

Don't know what else to add, I currently live in Niceville - about 10 minutes away from Destin. Destin Commons is good shopping, as is Silversands Premium Outlets in SanDestin, about 15 minutes from Destin.

The beaches are beautiful. Henderson State Park may be a little less crowded as its a state park and no alchohol is allowed. I grew up on the east coast and thought it couldn't get better, I now love the emerald coast much more than home now.

You can go a little further east to Cape San Blas if you'd like a quite, less crowded beach. The water's not quite as pretty as Destin, but this place is much quieter and less crowded than other beaches on the northern Gulf. Other than a couple of mom and pop stores on the Cape, there is nothing but beach houses, small condos and a state park. Port St. Joe is nearby and has some great seafood.

We're trying for a cruise in the next 4 weeks or so (sans kids)...it sounds more expensive but since food is included it usually is the same as a beach house/hotel on the beach. But you get to visit other ports and countries. Plus there aren't so many spring breakers either.

If you don't mind going on a drive, and you want to give your kids an awesome treat, Venice Beach is an awesome place. Shark Tooth Capital of the World. I know, I know, long drive. That is one of the only beaches I actually am willing to go to.
