Designer Aftershaves

Been curious about designer AS, regular frags bother me. I get red and hot, mild allergic reaction. However, I want to smell nice for SWMBO. I decided to try some aftershaves instead. Ordered Eternity and a Bijon along with the Tabac AS and soap from Perfumania the other day during their July 25% off sale. I also picked up some Nautica Blue and Kenneth Cole Reaction from the outlets. Tried the Reaction tonight and so far so good. She loves it, and I feel good about it. I don't see much discussion about these on here. I usually use Clubman, Old Spice, Clubman Bay Rum, and some Skin Bracer I got for Father's Day, but these should be nice here and there for special occasions. Does anyone else use them?

I don't use them. Usually when you get a celebrity' name on the bottle, you will pay more than what it's really worth (YMMV). If those work for you, that's all that matters. If you are allergic or having reactions to a few products, I would suggest comparing the ingredient list to find the one that is causing you some issues.

Well, I had no trouble with th Kenneth Cole last night, still smell nice this morning. I figure after the alum and witch hazel anything will be ok, plus the aftershaves usually cost a bit less than the frags. Happy so far.

If you do develop a reaction to the chemicals in the aftershaves, there are "natural" alternative brands out there designed for sensitive skin. Aubrey Organics has three different scents, and Herban Cowboy makes a line of shaving products with a scent called Dusk that I really like.

Ever try the Osage by Clubman?

Unless somebody gives it to me, I never use designer aftershaves. I'd rather use an unscented AS (like Lucido) and the designer EdT.

First, and foremost, I would check the ingredients on the "designer" aftershaves.

If the ingredients are nothing more than alcohol, water, and fragrance then that is a water down cologne, and not an aftershave. In my opinion, something needs skin healing ingredients to be accurately called an aftershave: so some sort of oil, glycerin, or propylene glycol should be in the ingredients list as well.

Otherwise, you just paying top dollar for a watered down cologne; in which case I agree with Nid Hog, your funds would be better spent on the EDT instead.

That's the thing, though, EDT breaks me out and makes me hot. All that is in the Reaction is alcohol, water, and fragrance, but I can stand it. I like the way it smells, so I am happy, YMMV. I figure the witch hazel does most of the work. I haven't tried Osage yet, Garry was out if when I ordered. Will try, though. I will still be using my Clubman and Bay Rum etc. most of the time, but it will be nice for date night to step it up a bit.

Tried the Nautica Blue aftershave, and it IS aftershave. Much more than fragrance, water, and alcohol. Felt refreshing, and SWMBO loved the smell.
