If you have an Indian store in your area, go there and buy a bar of Mysore Sandalwood soap, here it is about $1 for a small bar. You get a good sandalwood scented item.
The scent of real sandalwood is woody, creamy & sweet. You need to experience it for yourself; as another poster pointed out it's like trying to describe the color blue.
I don't know what Taylor's smells like but it's synthetic & probably bears little or no relationship to the scent of actual sandalwood. Which, given the rarity & expense of the real deal, is the case with most sandalwood- (and rose-) scented products.

TOBS sandalwood is spicy, woody and floral. I love it, but it is Taylor's rendition of sandalwood, not true sandalwood. Do what Rudy said to get a good idea of the basic sandalwood scent. Having said that do not let me dissuade you from getting Taylors! I have the shaving soap, cream, aftershave and edt, and will continue to replenish them!!
It reminds me of incense to some extent. There used to be a lot in Hawaii, but it became a cash cow for the Royal Family. It has been said that harvesting the sandalwood was terribly hard labor, so the harvesters would kill the young sandalwood saplings they encountered to ensure future generations wouldn't be made to do the same.
Techichi and john parker have both accurately described the scent of TOBS Sandalwood.
If a person were relying on it to be an accurate representation of sandalwood, they would be rather disappointed. This is a spicy, very soapy barbershop cologne/aftershave that although is built around a sandalwood accord, does not smell too much like natural sandalwood.
Still, it's an amazing scent that grew on me - a tub of TOBS Sandalwood was the first cream I ever used, and I really didn't like it in the beginning. I found it too soapy and spicy, and I still feel like it smells like Cusson's Imperial Leather soap.
Now I own the cream (bought a second tub after the inaugural one was used up) as well as the aftershave and cologne. I have learned to appreciate it for what it is, not expecting it to smell like a dry, natural sandalwood.
