Sufficive to say, I won't be shaving with these ever again.

Anyone want 9 free blades?

I don't like Derby also.
They feel not sharp at all, almost like if the company are pre-dulling them, lots of thug and pull, all that to say they are not for me.

I'll take them. I'll PM my address to you. I actually like them. I'm sorry they didn't work for you. I've had similar experiences with other blades that others praised highly. We are lucky, though. We can try samples of different blades until we find the ones that work for us. I didn't have that luxury when I shaved with my Mach3. I was just stuck with the factory offering.:mad3:

I was shaving with a new Ted Pella SE blade in a Gem Micromatic, the other day, and it flat tore my face up. In my case, it seems to be because I'm so out of practice with the Micromatic, and got careless.

My first shave with a Feather gave me a very close shave. Too close. It bit me in several spots. I thought I was going to have to go get a couple of pints of O negative.

PM sent.

I think they only exist to make us want to try better blades.
Feather and others must be happy they exist.
"ugh..these are terrible... I better order some <brand xxxx>"

yup they're no friend of mine.

I made the mistake of buying 100 Derbys when I started wetshaving. The first several shaves were horrendous and painful. Some of it was technique I know, but some of it was an allergic-type reaction I had. My face felt like it was covered in bee stings.

Since then, I have continued to use the Derbys and have been able to get great shaves. I'm not sure if my technique has compensated for the blades or what. I keep thinking that if I get a sampler pack I will have to go through my initial experience with the Derbys all over again. On the other hand, I may find the blade of my dreams.

I'm betting it was probably something lacking in your technique when you first started, rather than the blade itself. I would highly recommend getting a sampler pack to try out new blades. Of course, I may be giving slightly biased advice, as I've become kind of a "professional blade tester". I love trying out new blades. In fact, the highest # of blades I've had of one brand in the history of my den is 60. What can I say? I'm kinda weird. It gives me a little thrill each time I load an untried brand into one of my razors.

I totally agree. The Derby blades are far and away the WORST ones I have ever tried. I moved on to Crystals and Sharks and have not looked back! :thumbup1:

for that perfect blade~ Have you tried Personnas yet? The work well for me! I also had a nice shave today using Bluebirds. I'd be happy to send you a five-pack of each for free so you can try them for yourself. PM me with your address and I'll send them your way.

One little cut and Derby's suck. Of course you've never had a nick or cut with another blade. And it has nothing to do with technique I'm sure since Derby is the only blade that ever cut anybody. O' Moses smell the roses.

I used about 70 Feathers before trying something new (other than American Personnas). Got fine shaves. Feathers are superior... to Derbys and everything else I've tried.

I don't think Derbys suck. I admit they're not among my top 10 but I think it's a question of matching the razor and the blade and the brush and the cream/soap and method to the face.

For some, it's a natural thing ... for others, it's a struggle.

Make it fun.

I like Derby blades. The horizontal blades were quite good, and served me well when I was brand new to wet shaving. The vertical blades are usable, but need to be corked first, otherwise they generate more weepers than normal. :tongue_sm

I might purchase some of the new orange ones off of Amazon just to give them a whirl.

I get a nice shave from a derby, whatever razor I use, and that's a fair old few, though been shaving with a de for a long time, and tried loads of blades, these are very decent blades to what's out there.

One of the things that I enjoy about this whole experience is the fact that there are so many different opinions out there as to what works and what doesn't. Honestly, I would have figured that one size fits most before I found this forum, but that's obviously not true. Personally, Derbys have been the top of the heap after trying out Merkurs, Derbys and Red IPs so far.

I actually like Derbys. I have been wondering for quite some time why so many people dog on them so hard. And I've tried probably around 23-25 different blades. It's kind of a mission for me to try them all!:w00t: YMMV, of course. But I would have to get more than one cut from a single blade before I relegated an entire brand to poopdom.:wink2:
