Dense with Backbone Badger brush

I don't know much about high end badger brushes but I'm interested in buying a dense badger brush with good backbone for face and bowl lathering.

I know the Semogue 620 boar brush is famous for its backbone but I am interested in buying a badger brush. Price doesn't matter but obviously the cheaper the better.

Any suggestions?

You can't go wrong with a Simpson's Chubby 1 or 2. The knot is very dense and has great backbone for face lathering.

The Simpsons Colonel X2L is a great all-around brush that can be had for a reasonable price. Great with both soaps and creams and an excellent face latherer. The longer handle may be more comfortable for bowl lathering as well.

As much love as the Chubby and Duke are getting here, I would advise agains them if you really want to bowl lather. I love my Chubby and even have two of them, but the stubby handle makes bowl lathering difficult IMO. It can be done, but it fees as natural as turning a screw with a butter knife YMMV of coarse.

My original Shavemac D01 with a slightly longer handle felt much more natural. The D01's have more backbone than any other brush I have used, and you can get a very stiff brush with a slightly higher loft, again making bowl lathering that much more comfortable IMO.

Another option might be the Rooney Emilion three band. I have a Stubby 3 three band and the hair is wonderful. Exceptionally dense and soft, with great backbone. Again the handle issue comes up so I am suggesting the Emilion with its nice tall handle instead. This brush gets great reviews, and I have talked to several very discriminating users who like it for your stated desires.

My first two suggestion were a bit pricey so I'll throw out something more middle of the road. The Simpson Commodore in best is another great option. Dense, soft tips, and about the right size/loft to be a good middle ground brush for bowl and face lathering. I hope that helps some, and good luck with the new brush.

I went on their site and chose the "custom" brush options, chose the handle and silvertip and I believe the price was around $100 plus shipping. It didn't mention D01 anywhere. Are all of the custom Shavemac's silvertips D01?

You have to ask for a custom job on the Contact Page. When I ordered mine, I sent them an email request with the type of knot (D01 in this case), loft (If different than the stock height, but in all honest the default is perfect at 24mm), handle shape, and handle material. Bernd got back to me not to much later quoting me a price that was always the stock price for a D01 of the requested size along with any clarifications he needed. The "custom" page only offers the base three hair grades, so the use of the contact page is required.

How much did yours cost? What are the dimensions?

I'd like to suggest the Simpson Emperor in a 2 or a 3. I like the two band super that I have. I use it for bowls. I like the longer, perhaps slender is a better word, handle that it has over the Chubby or Stubby. I also like it for, dare I say it, mug lathering. Great on the face too if you go that route.
