Denim Musk

I'm a fan of the original Denim AS. Last week, when I went to re-up my supply, I decided to try one of the other varieties, Denim Musk. (Based on descriptions I'd read, I was torn between Black and Musk, but decided to go with Musk.) The review by user Darvant on Basenotes gives a good description:

Darvant on Basenotes said:
This is a more woodsy variation of the original version that starts with a sort of minty and aromatic whiff and fades in a woody and leathery smell with a masculine and boise' [sic; ??] touch of musk. This aromatized ingredient adds modernity to the juice.

I tried Denim Musk for the first time today and like it. It's potent but pleasant, a little old-fashioned-smelling (as is the original Denim) and very long-lasting. It reminds me a bit of Aqua Velva Musk, and if you like AV Musk, you may like this, too.

Denim is one of those classic brands running under the radar IMO...

I'm a huge fan of denim, it was my first aftershave after all :)

i prefer the vintage Faberge juice to the current production, the vintage has a bit more going on (and is very cheap on eBay). I have a bottle of modern Denim Musk, and it's a great scent. I've not seen a vintage bottle but I remember the scent from the 80s

Is the vintage one also called Denim? I did an eBay search and am not finding it.

it's always been called Denim or Denim Original. The packaging's pretty close on vintage and modern, but you can tell them apart by the button on the bottle. The current version is black and silver whereas the vintage was made to look like the rivets on jeans a. So it is bronze looking with denim written 3 times on it.

I should have said it's common on UK eBay.

I'm wearing the Musk today - it really is good stuff :)

Which vendors carry Denim?

Denim is near the top of my list to try as I am searching for that perfect woody smell.

Another one that I really like is Master Challenge -- a pleasing mix of wood, leather and citrus. (Cheap -- I mean, inexpensive -- too.)

Ah, thanks for that detail. I'll keep an eye out for it -- though I'm awash in the modern stuff for now.

I bought the Original from salonbeauty and the Musk from Ocean Discount, both on Amazon. Their prices for three 100-ml bottles, including shipping from the UK, were very reasonable. I just noticed, however, that Ocean Discount is now showing Musk as "currently unavailable".

Have you tried Mandom?

I got no idea how Mandom compares to Denim Musk but Mandom has a tangerine type of scent.

Reading these three comments together, it sounds like Mandom may be in the same family as Master Challenge, which has both orange/citrus and wood. Based on that potential similarity alone, I may have to try it at some point, even though the name doesn't appeal to me and I was never a Bronson fan. But, then again, I thought "Denim" was ridiculous, too -- a downmarket name for what turns out to be an upmarket scent (both Original and Musk, IMO).
