What's new

Decided to mostly face lather

I've had a beard most of my adult life. A good 10 years (late bloomer, got a beard at a 20-21). Ever since then I've had a neat beard.

Only recently have I decided to completely shave my beard.

Couldn't find a proper badger brush here in the uae. I only had a synthetic cheapie/freebie when I flew business class on Emirates Airlines. Terrible terrible brush. 2 weeks ago I found a pure grade badger at Crabtree & Evelyn.

My goodness what a difference. Anyways I recently ordered a chubby 3 butterscotch Manchurian from Mike.

But for the first month I only bowl lathered. He issues with that. Got those solved. Then a few days ago I decided to try face lathering with my TF&H soap. Couldn't get a lather. Probably not enough loading.
Brush tips are very flexible. I even tried gripping them at the bottom of the loft as opposed to the handle. Hopefully I'll learn to load my brush and lather with soap.

Anyways so I face lathered with cream a a few times and the experience was so regal.

I can't wait to face lather with the chubby 3 when it comes.

Theres just something regal and personal about bringing the hide of an animal to your face in such close quarters.

Yeah I enjoy face lather sometimes.. I'm trying out bowl lathering with brush then just using my hands to put the lather on face... its a lot quicker honestly.

Face lathered this morning. Arlington with a 20mm boar at 52mm loft. Much less air in the mix compared to whipping it up in the scuttle or bowl. Much creamier lather. I try to add a little water into the mix immediately after loading most mornings, but the lather is not as dense as going straight to the face.

marhaba, and i agree. I tried bowl lathering for a week and came back every so often then justgave up.Personally I just enjoy the great feel of face lathering. close my eyes for the first mt or so and just get lost in the smell and enjoy the "nothingness" of it all. very zen like. enjoy. you're gonna love that chubby 3.
adios

While I was always a bowl lather guy, I find now that I often due a face lather just to save a bit of time. Works out fine though.

I started face-lathering about a week ago and enjoy it, BUT the lather is cold when I apply it to my face, even though I soak my brushes in very hot water before loading. I don't have this problem when I bowl-lather. Anybody have any suggestions?

Soak the puck and brush in hot water before shaving. Use a brush scuttle between passes.

I started face lathering just a few days ago and I'm loving it. I can't see myself using a bowl again for a long, long time. If ever.

I started face lathering a week ago and I am a convert!! I found it pretty hard to make lather in a bowl.
Face lathering rocks!!! :)

Face lathering rocks!!! :)

I began face lathering a couple weeks ago when i got my SOC brush just to help break it in and see what it was about. Apparently I can get it to make a better lather than I can in a bowl, so I have not gone back to a bowl since. "I'll try it once." Besides, less bother, and more brush time on my face

I made the worst mistake ever.

Id shaved at 4pm. Tried to lather on my face with shaving soap. That failed. Damn Tf&H million times milled super hard soap.

Anyways, lathered with shaving cream and went about my day.
At night I decided to practice with the soap. I shoulda been that I did a 4 pass (WTG-XTG-XTG-ATG).

Ouch!! My face was already sorta sore and it hurt more.
Next time ill wait at least 12 hours to pratice if I did an ATG pass.
