Daughter's birth...first high end soap

Ok gents, I need your help. I will be father to a beautiful baby girl tomorrow. We are in the hospital now and SWMBO is being induced in the morning due to some BP issues.

Anyways, to celebrate her birth I have decided to get something I have always wanted but never wanted to spend the money on...a high end soap. But I do not know what I want. This will be a very special soap as it will be what I associate with her and will be my only expensive soap. I use VDH glycerin usually.

So what do I want? I love citrus/lemon scents yet also love wood/leather/tobacco as much or more.

I just do not know where to start. I will be making the order tomorrow and covet your suggestions to remind me of this miracle and of my favorite community.

Thank you all for your help in advance.

Allan,

I'm lean towards the sweathog end of the spectrum, so can't help you on the recommendation, but...

Congratulations Man! That's tremendous news.

Congratulations! I also became a father this month, such a great feeling.

I'd recommend DR Harris, either Arlington for citrus + fern or Marlboro for woodsy.

For lemon, I would pick up an old tallow based AOS lemon. For the wood/leather/tobacco, I would spring for Tabac soap bowl (not too expensive) + Alt. Innsbruck AS Splash (a little more expensive). They make a great team!

Congratulations!

Mabye a reformulated Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet is appropriate? Unfortunately you might want to ensure that it is the newest reformulation that was discussed recently.

DR Harris Arlington and Windsor is probably good too. I think Windsor would fit your tastes a bit better.

+1 on the Windsor or Arlington. Windsor has a great leathery smell and the Arlington has a great citrusy smell. Since they aren't too expensive, you can get both!

Congrats on the birth of your daughter.

DR Harris Arlington is a classic around here. Great old-school citrus scent. DRH Windsor is also citrus, but with a modern twist. Personally, I prefer Windsor. Marlborough is a different beast; woodsy and earthy, with smokey notes.

Tabac is another classic soap, highly recommended, but the scent is quite polarizing. I disliked it at first; I kept using it for the outstanding performance, but it's grown on me. I now look forward to using it...

Congratulations on becoming a father.

Since you like glycerin soap, maybe Mama Bear's Soap is something you would like? But if you want something different the soaps mentioned in the previous posts are solid performers. If you like lighter scents you could consider MWF. Or Mike's Natural Soaps or Mystic Water. Many, many choices to pick from.

D.R. Harris Windsor is a very classy scent which screams traditional wet shaving gentleman. Arlington is very clean and very nice. Lavender and Almond are both very nice. Performance of all DRH soaps is off the charts good.

Congratulations!

DR Harris Arlington gave me difficulties at first but once I got the hang of it I really enjoy it. Great scent and lather.

I'd also have suggest my favorite soap, Mitchell's Wool Fat. Not the luxury smell of the DRH line but it performs wonderfully!

Congrats! Is it your first? Watch out. Mine is just one year old and she is already trying to boss daddy around-- which most times it works...

This will actually be number 4...though it is the first in nearly 6 years. This is SWMBO's first though. My other three are from a previous marriage. Also, thank you all for the wonderful suggestions and thanks to a wonderful B&B'er I will have a tub of Topanga Fougere. I love this site and the community to which we all belong.

I don't get all the DR Harris, not a bad soap but I would not consider that a high end soap by any means. A high end soap typically explodes into lather and protects well, and moisturizes the skin and is presented and packaged well all the time, not as an option.

I would go with ADP, Aqua di Parma or MDC Martin de Candre. ADP is my pick I think the scent is far better than MDC.

Congratulations! I became the proud father of a young man nearly a year ago. I would recommend MWF, Tabac, or Mama Bear's Spellbound Woods.

Well haven't been at it long enough to recommend a high end soap. But I do have a year under my "dad belt". My little girl just turned one. So congrats on her birth. Nothing quite like having a daddy's little girl.
