Daily Cleaning of the EJ89

I'm a long time user of the old TTOs e.g., Fatboy & Slim........My wife recently bought me an EJ89 all chrome. I love it! My question is, as all of you know cleaning the TTOs after every shave is just a matter of opening up the head and running water over it.

I would like to clean my EJ after every shave but I do not want to take it apart except when I change blades after approximately 4 shaves......It was suggested to me to rinse off the head with water and then dip it into a 70% solution of alcohol for a few seconds and then let it air dry.....the water residue would evaporate with the alcohol.......does anyone do this and if so, would this effect that beautiful chrome finish?

Thanx in advance

I simply rinse my EJ DE89 under hot water, shake it out vigorously, and towel dry every surface I can reach without touching the shaving edges of the blade. Works well. When I change the blade after 3-4 shaves, I thoroughly clean it while apart.

personally I do take it apart every shave and I put the blade at the bottom of my mug for my next shave. I just rinse it under water every day and it keeps me from having to go through and to a weekly or monthly cleaning with something abrasive. I think it helps mine last longer but who actually knows.

I do a complete takedown of the DE89 after my shave followed by a rinse in water and a towel dry. The blade is removed and placed on a piece of folded paper towel, both sides are dried and the edge is given a bit of mineral oil with a q-tip.

Takes about a minute but seems to really extend the life of my blades (either via the oil or just by keeping everything dry)

I take all my razors apart after use. Give 'em a quick drying with a hand towel and strop the blades before letting everything air dry some more. For more intense cleaning session, I employ Brasso or toothpaste and alcohol.

I take them apart after each shave. I rinse in very hot water, dip in alcohol, let air dry and then thoroughly wipe down with a towel or bathroom paper (to get stains and any remaining wax off).

Pretty much what Gordy2 said above. Instead of PT, however, I use a soft cloth. For deeper cleaning, I use a soft toothbrush and q-tip dipped in alcohol.

I rinse my razors under hot water and hang 'em to dry. I'll bet thats the way my father and grandfather did it with their Gillettes and they lasted 50-60 years....

I started doing that but I noticed I would start shaving off a bit of my towel each time. i think I was drying too close to the blade.

Lightly unscrew, rinse, towel dry, tighten, hang. Every 2-4 times when I change the blade, I thoroughly clean it with a qtip and a tad of alcohol if needed. Every 1st of the month, I'll delicately clean it with a lubricant like Ballistol.

Cleaning after each use would be far too high-maintenance for me. An old toothbrush and warm water when a blade-change is due keeps me happy. If I went in for towel-drying a loaded razor I'd cut a finger or ruin a towel!

That's exactly what I do, it takes about 2 min before a blade change and it looks like it just came out of the box new.
