D.R.Harris question

I was sent a sample of D.R. Harris Arlington by a generous member here and absolutely love the smell, can see that.soap probably would last a while, and the shave was good.. One problem i found though, when i rinsed my brush, razor, and sink it was almost like there was a film left behind.. Is this normal with the D.R. Harris line?. I have only used Gentlemen's best and mama's bear soaps prior to this and they always.seem to rinse much.cleaner. .

I do not know if it is just me, but I have found that all of the tallow soaps that I have used (Tabac, DR Harris stick, Speick, vintage Pen's, TGQ creams, and Williams) all leave a slight film behind after shaving.

Fingas,

I experienced the same thing. To help combat that I use soap in my rinsing water. Like washing my hands in the rinsing wather with bar soap or whatever handwash. It's help keep the film from building up. I have used Dr. Bonner's 18-1 and give it a squirt in the sink as I fill it up. So while I have and rinse the razor all the hairs don't stick to the tub but drain off as it should while keeping the gunk from clumping together and possibly closing clogging later on.

The film I have noticed, like Tricky, with Tabac, MWF, PdP, Harris, even some creams.

I get films from some of my soaps, but I guess I don't pay attention enough to spot the trend. I'll pay attention next time I use arlington.

I only notice it because my routine is generally after I shave I cold water rinse my face and the sink then witch hazel which I let dry while I clean my razor and brush. with GB and mamas bear the hair just rinses away with cold water and the brush comes clean easy.

Sueto, thanks for the sample. When I finish the sample, if you don't want the dish back, I am going to fill it with gentlemen's best and pass it on to someone who hasn't tried it. For that matter I can fill it and send it back to you.

You can keep the bowl or pass it on. I just found them to be a good size to hold a soap sample and for shipping. Also kinda handy as it is the size of my palm. PIF away my friend!

Soap film... bah. I use body wash just to get past that. I can't imagine my
shaving soap doing that. Glad I read about it here before purchasing.

So what do you intend to use? All lathering shaving agents, be they soaps or creams, are soap-based to some extent, and all soaps react with the minerals in water to form soap scum. Some soaps or creams may be more prone to this than others, and the softer the water, the less minerals there are, but a certain amount of soap scum or film is unavoidable.

OK, i don't know if it is the water here in Houston or what but i can make a yogurty full bowl of lather, not bubbly, not runny but even with a warm water rinse between passes on the second pass it almost feels like the razor is sticking to my skin instead of sliding over it. The third pass it feels like my skin is made of tape. The lather doesn't seem to be breaking down as i still have a brush full all spread out and fluffy but it is almost like the soap gets sticky. I have tried more water (lather broke down between passes) and tried less water (didn't get that bowl full of fluffy lather). I don't have this same issue with the gentlemen's best soap or the mama's bear soaps. Anyone have a clue what i am doing wrong? I really like the smell of the Arlington so don't want to give up.
