What's new

Current Merkur Vision

Tonight I have been searching for a new Merkur Vision, and I wondered if the razor is still being manufactured? I found Visions and Visions 2000 and was confused as to the most recent model. Prices ranged from $110 to $169 not including any sets. So what is the most current model of this bad boy?

Almost all of the vendors reported the Vision as being out-of-stock including several European vendors. Does this mean that Merkur has one annual production run and once that's gone you have to wait another year?

During the recent crisis, many German companies reverted to what is called "Kurzarbeit" here (literally: short work). Instead of laying off workers, they come in for shorter periods, sometimes not for several days or weeks. The benefit is that once the economy picks up speed again, you don't have to rehire your skilled workers .Some suppliers for Merkur did the same, so they are still behind on production schedules afaik.
As to different versions of the Vision, ttbomk there is only one.

Thanks for the reply. I did not know they were that affected by the economy. We can all hope it will get better.

If there is only one version of the Vision, what is it? ttbomk? That's a new one on me.

to the best of my knowledge. I guess I just made that up...

I have found it both under the names Vision and Vision 2000, but I'm fairly sure it's the same razor.

On the Dovo website (Merkur is a subsidiary of Dovo) they list it as just 'Vision'. I think the 2000 part is just a product code.

One of the versions seemed to have some problems that were corrected with the other version, but I can't remember what version came first!

Ah ok. Now I see why you want to make sure which was first. Maybe send an email off to Dovo. I would hope they would be able to tell you.

I sent them an Email from their site about the 2000 vs Vision. I think that because their site only lists the razor as the Vision...that is the latest model, but let's see what they say. Thanks for the help!

Here is their reply to my email:

"Thank you very much for your email. There is only one version of the VISION, however, it has the item No. 2000, so I believe this is where some of the confusion comes from. It is one and the same, though.

Best regards,

I'm still confused, but I guess it's the luck of the draw whether or not I get a good Vision.

Despite what Merkur says there are indeed two versions of the Vision. The older version has a set screw which you need to loosen to completely disassemble the razor. The newer version lacks the set screw, requires considerable force to disassemble and "locktite" to correctly reassemble.

See the Vision Surgery thread for all the gory details.

Good grief!! After reading your thread, I'm wondering if it would be a mistake to get this razor. I knew it was not simplistic by any means but that seems over the top. Maybe I could use it until it needs a strip down and then sell it?

I don't have any issues with mine! I just cleaned it and it proved to be quite simple. I love the razor! It's a great performer and looks cool! :thumbup1:

I got what was advertised as a Vision 2000 on ebay only to see it has the set screw on the handle (which is spinning around freely, ugghhhh). I complained to the seller. He emailed anne at Dovo and she told him too that nothing has ever changed with the razor, that 2000 is just the product code.

Is she or the seller willing to help you out? I have the Vision and no set screw. It's great! I have never had a problem with the razor. I clean it monthly, take it a part, and put it right back together. Easy and pain free if you ask me! Especially when changing the blades.
