What's new

curious to know thoughts about this automatic watch

I Don't want to get ripped to shreds by the watch police on the other forums, so i "hid" the brand name, some might recognize the watch, but i'd rather hear about the watch itself than brand thoughts.

so please don't tell me you know the watch name and then blurt-post it out.

I've done enough brand research to understand the environment, movements, etc to be dangerous, but clearly not enough

I am not a big fan of dive/chrono- style watches currently. I was just casually looking for a new watch.

I found this automatic, which is interesting styling to me.

it's swiss made with an ETA 2842 movement with incabloc shock system and nivarox hairspring. 25 jewels
scratch resistant domed sapphire crystal, back of watch is "see-through"
triple gasket crown
all stainless steel construction
has a seconds hand, but no other complications

it's a squarish oval 44x47mm (doesn't appear to be invicta size) and I have large wrists, i've tried it on and it's not looking like a turnip as far as i can tell. although i think i read that's a size "ridiculous" on a thread here, it looks like it fits me appropriately.

the specs sound pretty nice and price appears reasonable based on my research.

what are your guys thoughts?

It is attractive. what more do you need to know? Watches are little more than jewelry what with every cell phone having a clock in it.

I like the clarity of the face it has and the color tone appears understated. It would be a real looker.

Having been recently awarded the prestigious Swiss Watch Award of Merit for Left Handers Living in the Midwest I would be willing to offer my services. Buy it and then ship to me. After seven years if it passes the rigorous testing I will send it back to you with a bill accounting for my hourly fee. :biggrin1:

i absolutely believe a watch is jewelry l, however i kind of wanted some opinions on fashion and tech.

I don't use my cell phone to check the time; however i do use it for everything else. I like watches to check the time, it's a sign that I must be getting old.

my research did not show up the stated combo of eta 2842 typical upgrades between the 2842 models, so i was just curious as to does it really make a difference.

Does the brand begin with an N and end with an R? Looks cool and all ETA movt. are tough and they are the basic training watches in all western
world schools....So all"American" watch service people can fix it.

LBF - I'm pretty sure it begins and ends with same letter, and one of the two you choose.

It is a great watch, great movement, great price. Not sure what grade of ETA movement they use.

What's most important is you like it, so buy it.

It is not my style, but it is attractive, I guess. Would look nice with a suit. It's very big, but if you have the wrist for it I say go.

Looks alright. I personally am not the biggest fan of watches that show off a movement on the dial when the movement has no decoration.. There should be something worth showing off. I'm not too familiar with the ETA 2842 movement, but have heard some stuff which I won't elaborate on.

But really in the end while being a self-proclaimed WIS myself, I'm a big believer in buying what you want. Just because it isn't my taste doesn't mean its not going to make you happy. I say get it if it resonates with you.

PS: I have no idea what brand that watch is.

Yeah, retail is a bit over that amount, I found it for much less.

I took a pic of it on my wrist that I'll post soon.

I take back the comment about great price, I thought the retail was a lot less. Global if you have a connection and are getting it for less then I say go for it.

Are we allowed to say what it is yet?

BTW I've seen this brand on watchuseek buy sell so no need to be afraid of the forum.

That retail price is why I ask. It seemed a bit high and I probable wouldnt drop that much coin on a Nixon based on what I have read from the watch aficionados. But I think their goals are different from mine.

By the way, I do wear a suit everyday to work and dress mildly upscale on weekends but want something different than what I have been wearing which is hard to describe as I don't know the style name. Not a tank but very much a bracelet.

At $1000 there is a lot of choices but if you like the Nixon they I say go for it. I may be biased though because I've owned several over the years and still own three. They were my twenty something skater kid watch company, and I think with the elite line they are trying to grow up with their original clientele that are now in their 30s and 40s. How successful they will be remains to be seen, and if they can be taken seriously as a (real) watch company.

I think it looks good, and if you like it... well the hell with what some "watch elitests" might think. If you leave your house in the morning thinking "Damn I look good" then it will be the watch for you!
