Creating a Shared Razor & Blade Research Database Shave Journal

Another quick update - found some issues implementing V7, especially for suture flexibility (I hope to turn it over to someone else when all is done), so version 8 is in incubation. Key issues is around the configurability all of our gear seems to be adopting - beyond combinations of razors and blades, you have to account for handles and materials ( a BrassBird is really not the same shave experience as a TiBird). Even with brushes - a Paladin handle with an Oumo knot could be expected. And knots ar eno longer just a source (silvertip) but a location (North China). And to top it off, the knot makers are establishing "families" based upon hair selection among the same source, and treatments applied.

I've made design changes to accommodate all this, not have to figure out how to make it work in FireStore.

This is brilliant and there is a great deal about it that appeals. My one concern is how personal shaving seems to me. I think it would be a useful reference but in the end I would always be thinking 'wonder how that blade would work for me?' e.g. I have blades I know are very well regarded, I have bad experience or the opposite. I've also had blades that with time my opinion changed on - I'm using Dorco now and quite like it where I did not in the distant past. This same kind of variability and subjective opinion touches on every aspect of my shave. All these variables converging make me feel like in the end I have to just experiment and assess myself.
I applaud your proposal, it shows a data driven mindset (which is admirable) and a dedication to a good shave.

Some of the very reasons for doing it. I think there are two contributions. By matching skin/beard/environment with results from a razor/blade combination an individual can find a reasonable starting point or an interesting new thing to try across the vast number of options and combinations. The other is it's timeseries value. Blades in particular seem to change over time - machine wear, new machines, new locations, corporate takeovers, etc. Dorco is a great example. The move from Korea to Vietnam took them from m'eh to top of my list. As I add in the AI I hope to be able to ask things like "what do other shavers who like what I like think of X?" That's the project for next year.

Just an update for everyone. Playing with the new design found function and implementation issues, so version 8.5 is in the works. I am going back and rebuilding the concept map.

I also got roped into teaching into a new Systems/Critical Thinking/Qualitative Research course and 2 new AI courses. V8.5 will be on the back burner a little while till I finish the course development.

Sorry so long between updates. I ended up with an additional class to teach and have been scrambling. I have been able to run some tests with the last iteration of the design and realized there is way more difference between a relational database design and a document database design, but I have learned a lot and made progress. I am starting a redesign this month and should have something to post in a couple of weeks.
