Cream lathering question

Today tried a cream (TOBS lemon lime) and discovered that even with lots of lathering I couldn't get the bubbles out. I did start with a pretty wet brush, and I'm used to loading the brush with water for croaps. Is the issue simply too much water and next time simply go with a drier brush and cream, and gradually add water as needed?

Looks like you already have a handle the situation. A drier brush to start and gradual addition of water should remedy your situation.

Agreed with the above posts. Try starting a drier brush and adding water intermittently. Doing so will give sustainability to your lather.

Thirded. I found with TOBS creams (bowl lathering) that I only needed a few drops of water and a damp brush to get a really good lather. Not at all thirsty like soaps.

Yes.

Well, I feel like an idiot. I've been trying to lather creams using the "almond sized dollop" and getting nowhere. So I dumped a bunch of cream (Spieck) in the bowl this morning with little water, added it as needed just to get past the "dry looking" lather, and . . . it worked great. Thick, yogurty, protective lather.

I did feel like I used a significant portion of the tube, though - is this normal? I used about 2-3 tsp of product, and at that rate I'd be through a tube of Spieck in a month or less.

I've never used Speick but for definite, with all the TOBS, GFT and DR Harris creams I've tried, an almond-sized amount is more than enough to get 3 passes' worth. If I'm squeezing from a tube, 1/2" is plenty. When I first started, I used one of those white plastic medicine dosing spoons, and the smaller end (2.5ml) gave me more than I needed.

Less water is the key, at least to begin. I have so many creams I start with a drop in the bowl and add gradually as they all lather differently. My eShave erupts with almost no water at all whereas others require a bit more.

Good evening all. I am new to creams, and I have trouble bowl/scuttle lathering too. I got my first tube of cream, GFT, two days ago and I'm still learning. I'm glad the OP posted this thread.
