What's new

Couple of old straights and a third odd blade

I've been given this motley collection including a small Solingen blade with micarta (or plastic/celluloid?) scales; a Sheffield blade with bone/ivory scales and a weird bone/ivory handled blade that looks more like a dentist's instrument of torture.

Any ideas what that small blade might be for? Moustache? Foot callouses!?

If anyone would like a project - they're yours for the cost of the postage.

I believe I've seen others post those small blades were for corn/callous removal.

Wish I did the restore game... but I'm sure someone on here is looking for project straights to play with.

Interesting grouping. The fleam is pretty neat and since nobody else has said anything, I'll take them. How much is postage to 49855?

Hi all,

Thanks for interesting responses - these items have now found a home and perhaps will resurface in a refreshed state after some expert TLC.

Hi all. Biko(Paul) sent the razors, fleam and brush to me. They are VERY nice. The brush handle is IVORY and will be sent to Bob Farvour to be reknotted and will be my only prized brush. The straight with the larger blade will be a easy cleanup and the ivory scales can be salvaged making a nice set coupled with the ivory brush. The fleam I will leave as is and it will be put in my display case with my collectible razors as this is the first fleam I have owned. The handle is definitely ivory. The second straight will need more work, but can be made useable with a bit of work. Paul was very generous in sending these to me and I couldn't be more excited to have them. Thank you so much Paul.

Jim
