Coticule Thickness

How thin does a coticule need to be before you are concerned with it thickness?

Is an 1/8" of yellow/salmon coticule on a combo going to last the average guy a lifetime?

Being new to honing I have no reference for how fast one might wear through a coticule if only honing every few weeks /months - I'm relatively young, and the next stone I'm considering is on the thinner side.

I read once, that 7-15mm of stone should last a couple of lifetimes.
How anyone could project that - Is beyond me. There are sooooo many variables....
Given your needs - 3mm or so should be enough for a good long while.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless you plan on using it for knives as well.
