Corrosion

I just picked up a vintage super speed and It's in really nice shape except for some rusty looking corrosion on one of the side plates.
I gave it a good scrubbing but I can't seem to get it to come loose.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to get that off? I don't mind if some brass is showing through but that corrosion makes me not want to put it to my face just yet.

I'm OK with a little brass showing, the rest of the thing is tip top. I'll give it a quick alcohol soak then take it for a spin in the morning.
