I get it, i think you would be better off with any piece of smooth leather, you can glue it to some wood and don't have to worry about the hangers.Hi Doc
I am just a guy who try to save money, and still get the best result, and thats a difficult task.
I found the cork in my basement, and - thinking a lot of : straight razors, pre, wash, after, strop, hone, polish, etc and you know, what your mind is full of, leeds to ideas. Sometimes bad, but sometimes good.
I tried to work a corner of the cork with smouth grinding wet paper (1200) and the surface became very very smouth.
Normally I would just try and test my ideas, but in this case I will mess up my only straight, I depend on it every day now

That's new to me! I can't imagine it being very durable. Maybe glued to a piece of wood as a bench strop? Might work well with pastes.
