Contemplating a Red Tip

Hello, B&B!

So, I've been interested in a Gillette Super Speed red tip since I started wet shaving. For those who have one and use it regularly how would you describe it? How would you compare it to a ball end Tech (which I use regularly)? I just want to do my home work before I go looking for one (they do seem hard to find at a reasonable price). Thanks for the info!

Steve

My favorite razor above all, I like the shave, the handle design and of course the Red Tip :) The RT is diffinitively more agressive than the gentle Ball-End Tech, The blade gap is .66mm vs .56mm for the Tech , if I remember well.
I had a '56 in a very user grade condition than I purchased a '55 in a very good condition for my Birthday :) I appreciate this razor more than my Merkur 34C and find it more comfortable YMMV

I use the one I have on occasion.

Not very often but I have too many razors to use any of them very often.

They are moderately mild/medium shaving razors. Good daily use razors

The RT is my travel razor. I can use it daily for days. If I lose it, it is fairly cheap to replace. Great value. Compares well to my EJ89.

Red tip is a great razor slightly more aggressive than a moderate aggression razor imo (say, a 34C). I think it's much more aggressive than a tech, howver. I traded mine only because the offer was too good to refuse (perfect condition gold aristocrat) but I would happily buy another red tip soon.

I traded mine for a Super Adjustable (which I regret now, as I've yet to get an SA to work for me) a while back. I used a 7 O'Clock Yellow with it and had a bad shave. I should have kept it and tried some different blades in it. I LOVED the feel of the RT in my hand, if they made a Flare-tip SS with the RT's handle, it would be just about perfect.

I used my Red Tip for the first time yesterday. The angle is a little different compared to the Merkur 180 (long handle). So, it takes a little getting used to. Overall, a DFS once you get the angle right. More aggressive when done correctly than my Merkur. The head is a bit taller, so in a couple of areas I just removed lather.

If you've been using a Ball-End Tech, you're in for a world of difference. But in a good way.

I borrowed my brother-in-law's Red Tip for a couple of weeks. It's a fantastic shaver that really knocks those beard bristles down. Overall, it's given me a smooth shave time after time.

It's not my favorite razor, though. My Senator really does a great job for me, but get ready to pay a whole lot more for one of those than you would a Red Tip.

They're definitely worth adding to your collection. I'm actually on the hunt for one of my own after giving one a whirl for a while.

I have a red tip and think it is a great shaver. It never disappoints when I pair it with an Astra or silver blue. Great razors imo.

It gives a great shave. Gonna have to take mine for a spin. I don't think you would regret getting a red tip and if you do you won't have any trouble selling it on b/s/t.

2nd shave with the Red Tip, Tabac, Astra SP(2) and the B&B Essential Boar. DFS. Got this razor figured out. No weepers, irritation, etc. topped it off withh CC Bay Rum. Still think it is more aggressive than my Merkur, slightly more aggressive.

Hey thanks, guys! I found one for a great price on Ebay and snagged it (sometimes its nice being 7 hours ahead of Americans :biggrin1:) and from the pics it looks to be in great shape. As a lot of people have said, if I try it and don't like it, I don't think i'll have a problem getting some to take it off my hands. Thats a good feeling. I'll let you guys know in a week or so how it goes! Keep the reviews coming! It'll help pass the waiting time :whistling:
