I gotta say it. I LOVE my Omega 10098. Shoe Box calls it the Big Bruiser: http://www.shoeboxshaveshop.com/omega-10098--the-big-br10098.html Indeed it is! (Shoe Box lists the loft at 65mm but mine is a 60mm. Same knot size at 27mm.)
I have little experience with brushes. This Omega 98 was my first brush, years ago and I found it too large and unwiedly at that time. It turned me off brushes altogether and since then I only used water to shave with my trust Gillette Knack.
Fast forward to 2010 and I've found B&B, reigniting my trad shaving discovery.
I bought an Omega 10098 BabyPro: http://www.shoeboxshaveshop.com/omega-10029.html
I found it great at first, a lot more maneuvarable, but as a few months passed by I got the itch to try my Big Bruiser 98 once again.
I instantly fell in love with it! Much softer, less backbone and an extra large knot that covers my face nicely! Almost luxurious in fact! And i face lather Tabac from a shave stick religiously! The extra large handle is also perfect for my gorilla hands.
Recently I went back to the shorter lofted (50mm loft, 23mm knot) BabyPro and my skin started suffering. Through the 2nd pass I started to get lots of irritation and redness. Post shave was traumatic to say the least. And it was already well broked in. I immediately returned to the Big Bruiser.
It almost seems counter intuitive for me as I swear by my Tabac and face lather 100% of the time. But somehow the longer lofted 98 feels and works much better for me.
The trend with boar brushes lately seems to be a shorter loft, some even going under 50mm!
Anyone else out here going against the grain and showing some hardcore love for your longer lofted larger knotted boars? :cough:cough: SOC, Semogue 2000 owners!
By the way, I've never tried badger before and though I've been going back and forth I finally feel like getting one. Given my preference for a limpy (for a boar) long lofted, large knotted boar should I get a badger in an equivalent size? I would like more softness so I'd rather best or silvertip grades.
