I have been using one of these for a while to blow out the scales. Compressed air likely works even better!

That's just cool looking. How long do they last? and is it like cheese in a can, you just push the nozzle to the side and it blows?

I sometimes get lather in there when I shave/cut the sides of my goatee with the heel of the blade.

It is actually used to clean dust from cameras and such, but works nicely to blow out water from scales, water from the inside of Feather AC's, etc.

Why is the pivot getting wet in the first place? It hasn't happened to me in years...

i didn't think it was getting wet, i barely use water to clean off the blade, but low and behold a bit of water in that area. not quite sure... i am pretty careful to rinse the blade at an angle that wouldn't allow water anywhere near the pivot... and my home is pretty dry, so i would think it wasn't necessary, but... better safe than sorry.
