Cologne for a HS Senior.

I'm looking for a nice cologne for homecoming/prom/college. I am a student with a part time job, so I'm not exactly loaded. Right now I have some Abercrombie brand cologne, but I'm running low and would prefer a more mature cologne. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a scent that says young, yet sophisticated (that isn't outrageously expensive).

Despite what others may say here, I find Paul Sebastian (PS) to be a quite nice scent, especially during an evening time gathering. It won't exactly break the bank at about $25 for a 4 oz bottle. The walgreens website says it's not sold in their stores, but I know for a fact my local one has it.

Old Spice is another good one, and is cheaper yet, about $12 or so for 6 oz. I find I get a more favorable reaction from the PS, though. I'm sure you will get million (literally) different responses, and all will be sound advice. I will put my vote in to stay away from any of the AXE, TAG, or BOD sprays. They smell cheap and like you are trying to do nothing more than hide the fact that you just got out of the gym and didn't shower yet.

Have a Macy's or Nordstroms in your area? The best thing to do is go smell some different colognes for yourself. Check out the Burberry scents for men and Acqua di Gio and whatever else strikes your fancy. A small bottle (50mL) is usually not too expensive but you haven't stated a budget.

It doesn't get much love around these parts, but I'd give Dunhill Pursuit a go. It's a fairly typical cologne scent, with a spice/wood base that smells pretty much uncontroversial; however, it ISN'T a hugely popular scent for your age group. You'll smell good, but not like the other 20 guys who are all wearing, say, Acqua di Gio. Also you can often find it on clearance, because Dunhill apparently thought that it was going to be some sort of game-changer and the basic reception was "eh, this is nice."

Which, as a HS senior, is I think the ideal reaction to a cologne. I at least didn't want to make waves at that age. Not saying you SHOULDNT want to make waves; if you do by all means grab a bottle of something edgy. Pursuit is just... nice. You will smell good and not in a thought-provoking way.

Whatever scent you choose, don't douse yourself with it. Less is more when it comes to colognes. The idea is to attract not repel....and you certainly don't want people to know you are coming before you actually get there. You want some subtlety.

The amount to use will vary with the cologne, depending on its strength and sillage. Experiment ahead of time.

Farenheit by Christian Dior - Its NOT an oceanic, metrosexual scent like everyone else is pushing these days. Rather, its smoky and soapy, with heavy citrus and some floral notes. Very manly scent, while still being young and energetic.

Go to Nordstroms @ Stonebriar Mall in Frisco. They have a great selection and usually give free samples. There is also a Sephora or You can order it off the net to save some as Nordstroms is full retail, but should be fresh. Try Terre d'Hermes for a good fall scent or some of the John Varvatos scents. There are some good suggestions in this thread as well. L'Occitane which is @ Willowbend or Northpark has Eau de Baux and Vetyver which are both great and $46 are very nice, mature and versatile.

I would say go check out your local Nordstrom's or Bloomingdale's...you'll probably find something you like there.

Just another thought...you could check a discount store like Burlington Coat factor or Marshall's the often have designer fragrances on discount...sometimes they have tester bottles for sale real cheap.

As for scents I am a huge fan of Issey Miyake...the small bottle is $58 at Sephora.

Only problem with Burlington, Marshall's and T.J. Maxx is that the bottles are sealed, hence no sampling.

mugler cologne if you can find it on discount or banana republic classic like the one in my avatar. the suggestions for older frags are not bad. i dabbled with vintage frags for awhile and am now back to modernish, at least 1990's light and fresh brigade stuff. i am considering a blind buy of the flannel though. you might like rive gauche and encre noir too for more mature stuff. at least that's how i see vetiver scents and fougeres.
